Take out the keyboard completely and reseat it. then turn on the power and see if you can use the keyboard, if you can then when you get into windows, enable the mousepad.

Make sure the drivers for each are downloaded. If you can plug a mouse and keyboard in, check Compaq for the drivers you need for the model you have. You may want to do a system restore to an earlier date.

How to Install Compaq Laptop Keyboard

Compaq laptop keyboards have a variety of sizes and configurations to fit the design of the laptop itself like smaller laptops or larger laptops with full-size keys. You might now find that the keyboard or keypad exhibits problems such as sticking keys or general unresponsiveness from your owning Compaq Presario laptop because of several years'using. Besides, you have made sure that your old keyboad is clean but it still doesn't work well. Then you have to install a new one. So how to do it? Don't worry, you can DIY your Compaq new keyboard via this guide.
Step1. Exit Windows and turn off your computer.
Step2. Unplug the power cord and modem and network cables.
Step3. Place your laptop on a clean and disconnect the old keyboard. Open your laptop screen as far as you can.
If you are installing a USB keyboard, connect the keyboard to a USB port on the back of your computer.
Step4. Use the flathead screwdriver to pop open the hinge cover. Slowly and carefully pry it open from the right side to the left side, exposing the keyboard screws. Using the Phillips screwdriver, remove the screws that hold the Compaq Keyboard in place.
Note: Keep these screws in a safe place.
Step5. Gently tug the Compaq Keyboard component toward your laptop display. You are trying to pull it out of the slot that is located near the palm rest and mouse pad. It doesn't take much force, but you must be firm. Once you have pulled it out of the slot, you can lift it up and remove it from your laptop.
Step6. Take the replacement keyboard and slide it into the slot. Once in place, screw it into place with the Phillips screwdriver and the screws you removed in Step 2. Fit the hinge cover back into place by snapping it in from left to right.
Step7. Connect the power on your laptop and verify that the new Compaq Keyboard is working.
OK, well done! Compaq keyboards are inexpensive, easy to find and quick to install. Actually, all Compaq Presario laptops have reasonable prices and you don’t have to worry if something breaks down as replacements are easy to find and cheap to buy from Papatek. Papatek Compaq Laptop Keyboard are specifically designed for each Compaq laptop brand and model.

I took my computer in to get worked on- now when I power up- the wireless keyboard and mouse don't work. When I type or move the mouse- a light flashes on the antenna part that's connected to the...

This wireless keyboard is super old (a relic )
I'd say 17 years old, XP year 2001 old
and HP ended support on it years ago.
we dont even seen them sold used now on ebay.
if new batteries do not fix it
nor the reset (pairing) button fails.
and worse if your UNSTATED OS shows in device manager its is dead, then it is dead forever.
if you are web connected, are you and PnP fails to find the driver, you are doomed.
HP does not have. it. now.
they did make unified driver for all 100s of models they made but I can not find it, at all now. did last year but not now.
google this (no manuals found either)

HP p5304

buy a wired mouse
or new wireless.
same answer for keyboard side.

Water in the keyboard

Oh that doesn't sound good! As you have found out, liquids and keyboards don't play well together.

Sounds like two problems. First, You might want to remove the keyboard and try to clean it up as well as possible. If this doesn't work, you may need to replace it.

Secondly, it sounds like some of the water got down into the power
supply area. Some lap tops have a replaceable power sect.but most have the power section as a part of the mother board. If it is a part of the mother board, the resolution would be to replace the mother board.

Wish I had better news for you,but hope this information helps.
If you have further questions, please feel free to get back to me, and have a good day!
