SOURCE: Replacing the bake relay / control panel

The bake feature not working can be caused by either a bad bake relay on the Electronic Oven Control (EOC) board (which is your clock interface on the control panel), or a bad igniter on the bake manifold. I would recommend verifying your igniter first. Its the cheaper of the two repair options and the more common failed item. The following link explains oven igniters and how to replace one:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r401858-replacing_oven_igniter_gas_range

The igniter on your range should read 2.5 to 3 amps if good. The part number is AP2014008 and is made by GE. It can be found at appliancepartspros.com for about $62. Just use your model number for your search criteria and look for item 28 under section 2.

If the igniter is fine, you are correct to assume a problem with bake relay on the EOC. You will need to remove the rear panel of the console to view the circuit board. The relays are usually marked on the board. NOTE: The EOC for your range is over $200.

Read throgh the information provided and let me know if you still have problems after checking your igniter. I'm hoping to avoid an expensive repair job for you. I hope this helps.

SOURCE: The oven is stuck at LOC.

The locking motor has gone bad on the range. Common for this to happen after self clean. You will have to replace or have the lock assembly replaced for the stove to work again

SOURCE: just installed new control panel

Normally the bake/probe flashing happens when you plug in the probe. If you don't have the probe plugged in, then double check that your wiring connectors are plugged in properly on your new board or that the wires to the probe connector are not shorted. Make sure that the probe is plugged in all the way. Unscrew the retaining nut, then unscrew the two sheet metal screws holding the housing in place, then give the probe connection a gentle tug to ensure that it is still properly connected.

Try a GE Control Panel Reset

This should clear the error codes:
Power off the unit, wait 5 minutes then restore the power.
Press the broil and bake keys simultaneously and "SF" will be displayed.
Press "Hr. Down" and "Minute Down" keys simultaneously for 3 seconds, then the time of day will be displayed.
Press "Temp Up" and "Minute Up." The control panel will display the following:
Go blank briefly
Display all segments briefly
Display "LOC REF" briefly
Display all segments again for 30 seconds
Display "LOC REF"
Acknowledge the "LOC REF" by pressing the "Hour Down" and "Minute Up."
Test control pads. Oven should now function.

I turned my oven on to BAKE and all I got was LOC in the control panel. HELP!

This means that the Control Panel is locked. This feature is useful when you are cleaning the range/oven's top and control panel. It also keeps small children from doing any damage pressing buttons on the unit when unsupervised.

Unlocking the control panel often depends on the make/model. Some ovens have a control lock key. With the cooktop and oven off (use the Cancel/off button if needed), press and hold the control lock key for 3+ seconds until you hear the beep. This toggles the control panel lock. If you continue to press the button, it will go switch states again. (On a ~10 year old GE Profile range, the button is labeled Lock Controls. This is to the right of the display on the lowest line of keys.)

Some ovens may toggle the control lock by pressing and holding Start for 5+ seconds. Often, the control lock button or keypad combination will be indicated by a note in a much smaller font on the control panel. If two buttons need to be pressed simultaneously, there will be a line between them with a symbol in that line.

Please add a comment with the make and model of your range for more information.

The LOC on messsage appears on the screen when we go toturn the oven on. NEED the OVEN. What could we do to fi it?

The control lock has been activated. This feature is useful when you are cleaning the panel so that you don't accidently start the oven or the self-cleaning cycle. Try pressing Bake and Broil Hi/Lo together for 2 seconds (or a bit longer). SF should appear in the display. Then press Self Clean and Start. (When you press Self Clean the LOC message should disappear.)

Manuals for most GE appliances are available here: http://www.geappliances.com/service_and_support/literature/ . Enter the model number and click Submit. The direct link to the manual for the JTP18WWWW is: http://products.geappliances.com/MarketingObjectRetrieval/Dispatcher?RequestType=PDF&Name=981140017.PDF .

I hope this helps.

Flashing bake and probe indication on GE JD968S

I found the Mini-manual inside the control panel area of the range. I followed the instructions for resetting the control. Instructions are shown below:

Glass touch models only- Lock Reference Command
When the control panel is accessed, the signals used by glass touch panel may be adversely affected. To compensate for this change in signals, the following procedure must be followed every time the control panel is accessed.
1. Make sure power to the range is turned off.
2. Completely close the range control panel and return range to it's normal installation.
3. Apply power to the range.

Accessing the the control panel area but not replacing the control.
4. Enter Special Functions area by pressing BAKE and BROIL keys at the same time for 3 seconds.
5. Reset the control by pressing the 9 and 0 or the HOUR DOWN and MINUTE DOWN keys for 3 seconds at the same time.
6. Approximately 20 seconds after the time is displayed, press the 1 and 5 or the TEMP UP and MINUTE UP keys. The control should briefly go blank, briefly display all segments, briefly display LOC REF, display all segments for 30 seconds, and then display LOC REF.
7. Acknowledge LOC REF command by pressing the 6 and 8 or the HOUR DOWN and MINUTE UP keys at the same time. the control should then display the time of day.
8. The oven should then be ready for normal operation.
9. Test the functionality of the glass control panel, especially the CLEAR/OFF and/or CANCEL key(s).

Steps 4 through 7 are appropriate if you have not opened the control panel area. I had to open mine to clean up moisture caused by a boil over.
Judging from the number of inquiries on this same issue, this is a common problem. GE is more than happy to schedule a service call for this issue, but not so happy to give the information over the phone. This is a fairly simple procedure for most people to accomplish.
The ERC on my range appears to be a fairly common unit. I hope this information helps.
