Couple of things:
I take it that "Err" shows on the display ? This can be caused by a number of things, including the aperture ring on the lense being in the wrong position. Make sure its set to the orange number. The 'err' message isnt generally shown for a power problem. If you have a DC power lead, attach that and see if you can get the camera to work.
Batteries are a nightmare for the S2.
Firstly, if looking for rechargeable AA's, you need at least 2300mAh. Maplin are doing a good deal till the end of the month on them; http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=46414
If you have the small lithium batteries in, then take them out. If the camera senses that they are in there, it will try and use them -even if they are depleted. You can replace them with CR123a batteries, but unless you want to use the on-camera flash, I wouldnt bother. DONT BUY RECHARGEABLE CR123A s !! They do not have anywhere near enough power.
Summary;
Check aperture ring
remove/replace CR123a (High quality replacement)
Use high power AA's
let us know if this works
I had a similar problem when I put a set of brand new but not alcaline batteries into S2. It looks like non-alcaline batt cannot provide enough current that causes the problem. A replacement to alcaline solved the problem

This is an old post but if you haven't found your solution yet here is the solution. The Fuji FinePix S2 Pro uses two sets of batteries one set located in the camera body grip and another set in the battery grip itself. If you are experiencing the problem you are then the batteries in the camera body are dead and need replacement. here is a diagram. Replacing
the batteries in the camera body require removing the grip. Diagram
Hi, Go into menu and try to format memory card. Most cameras can just use card right from package without format.Formatting will delete all pics if any available. This is the only solution for your problem. This is the procedure,In playback mode on the camera (green arrow on selector switch - or middle option if the legend has worn off) press menu/ok -> select format -> menu/ok ->menu/ok to confirm Any pictures on the card will be lost. Thank you !!
remove the card clean the card pin and card slot in cam by a napkin. then try . if the same msg come then format the card and try again. If again same msg then change the card use new . Becouse every card have a limited snaps. For exam : 0001 - 1999 is life time camture capacity. if your full fill then the camera shown card error. Becouse when a card manufaturing the company fixed a total use capacity, so if that cross the msg with come that CARD ERROR.
Thanks, i am waiting for your feed back & if you satisfied then thumps me please.
From administrative tools in the control panel on a pc,you can format a 4 gig card to fat (not fat32) in the disk management window. It works fine in my Fuji s2.
the lithium batteries power the flash and some of the metering. But if they drop below a certain power, the camera dies.
The F33 error is probably the accidental movement of the aperture ring on the lense. If you get the error, check the aperture ring is set.
Ensure the batteries are the correct kind and chemical makeup (yes it does make a difference!) try using lithium or alkaline as oppose to standard =]
Otherwise there may be an issue with the camera itself, check for warranty? if it isnt under warranty, document the error message/number, consult the manual AND the support site for the manufacturer.
Could be CCD Failure ... known as ' Black Screen of Death'.
Have CCD cleaned at a reputable camera (not chain) shop and they'll test it.
Fuji were replacing units suffering this problem at one stage.
