The bulb on our QS2 series rangehood blew, and now the light is on at full intensity all the time. Banging around the various relays on the control board didn't do anything, and a new board is a $130 problem

Thanks for your response. I had arrived at the same conclusion, it's the $110 part that stings. Apparently there is no swapping out a dodgey relay for $10, which is the solution I was hoping for. As it now stands, I've got the $2 solution, an oven mit twisting the bulbs in and out to get light. While not glamorous, it works well enough. I'm a little put off by the notion that Nutone (or in my case Kenmore) makes a product that appears to consistently fail like this, and takes no responsibility for it, but I guess that's life.
