Use an amplifier with NO MORE than 150 Watts per channel or you be buying new speakers. At this power level don't expect booming bass boost without damaging the speakers. The Rotel generates 130 per side which is very near the safe maximum for those speakers... and the specs look good. If you are not satified with the sound, the speakers are LIKELY the problem. Look at getting good commercial speaakers instead of CONSUMER grade speakers. Go to a music store dealing with bands and musicians and view the products they have to offer. Consumer speakers often fail when people turn up too much bass. At high listening levels hearing damage can result.

Hello. I appreciate this is an old post but in case someone still has one of these.I just got one in for repair today. Get two rca connectors and short them out so the input is grounded. If this fixes the problem then it is coming in through the inputs. If not then the two large filter caps need replacing. Another problem these units have is the glue that holds the small filter caps etc corrodes the board after a few years. Clean it off, repair the tracks and coat the board with pcb lacquer.
Hiya, its the cone. The former is touching the magnet inside. Realignment is really tricky and dont know many people who can do that so you may either have to live with it or see if someone can recone it in your area.
I had similar problems my tweeter was blowen and it had to be replaced... I actually blew the speaker many times using a NAD amp as there were spikes coming from the amp. I changed the amp to a Marantz PM7200 and have had no problems since.
Lots of ways. To set it up properly you will need a decibel meter, Radio Shack makes a nice one. With the meter volume can easily be set as well as phase. I'm assuming frequency is the crossover frequency, generally set at 80Hz. This one involves some trial and error as I am not familiar with your speakers. Don't know much about the notch filter.
