This is a Tough one!
If you dont mind loosing all your files
You can test to take the harddisk out from the computer and put it in an another computer as "slave disk"
Boot the computer and start.
You will find your drive in "my computer"
Try to do a total format.
If this does not work, put the disk back to its original settings and back to its original computer and try this:
Windows/DOS unlock Note: This requires taking the Archos apart, which will void your warranty!

  1. Grab atapwd (written by Alex Mina)
  2. Create a bootable DOS floppy disk, and put atapwd.exe on it
  3. Remove the harddisk from your Archos and plug it into a laptop (or a standard PC, using a 3.5" => 2.5" IDE adapter)
  4. Boot from the floppy and run atapwd.exe
  5. Select the locked harddrive and press enter for the menu
  6. For Fujitsu disks: Choose "unlock with user password", then "disable with user password". The password is empty, so just press enter at the prompt.
  7. For Toshiba and Hitachi disks, if the above doesn't work: Choose "unlock with master password", then "disable with master password". The password is all spaces.
  8. Your disk is now unlocked. Shut down the computer and remove the disk.
Big thanks to Magnus Andersson for discovering the Fujitsu (lack of) user password!

Hope this helped!!! it it did, Please vote!

How to enable Windows 7 administrator account and reset lost Win 7 admin...

How to enable Windows 7 administrator account and reset lost Win 7 admin password
There are two parts for your Windows 7:
* Enable Windows 7 administrator account
* Reset lost Win 7 admin password
With 240 million licenses sold out in one year, Windows 7 has been proved to be a successful product of Microsoft. Compared with its previous versions like Windows XP, it has many improved features. The built-in administrator account is one of the features. In Windows XP, there is a default administrator account after installation. But the built-in administrator account is disabled by default in Windows 7. To enable Windows 7 administrator account and assign a password to it, you can achieve it in 2 methods.
Part I: Enable Windows 7 administrator account
Method 1: Use Command Prompt
The easiest way to enable the Windows 7 built-in administrator account is to use the Command Prompt.
1. Click Start and type CMD in the search box. Right-click CMD and select Run as Administrator.
2. Click Yes when prompted to allow the Command Processor to run. And then the command prompt will appear.
3. Type net user in the command prompt window, and then hit Enter. All the Windows account user names will be listed. You'll also see the Administrator account, but now it is not enabled.
4. Type net user administrator /active:yes and hit Enter to enable Windows 7 admin account.
Now the Windows 7 administrator account is created. To create the Windows 7 administrator password, you can follow the below steps:
1. Switch to log on Windows 7 with the administrator account.
2. Click Start, Control Panel, User Accounts and Family Safety and User Accounts in order. You'll enter the screen where you can make changes for your account.
3. Click Create a password for your account on the screen.
4. In the coming screen, type and confirm your Win 7 admin password.
5. Enter password hint and click Create Password.
Now your Windows 7 admin password is successfully created.
Method 2: Use Local Users and Groups
1. Click Start and type lusrmgr.msc in the search box, and then hit Enter. The Local Users and Groups screen will come up.
2. Double-click the Users folder. And all the Windows 7 account will be displayed for you.
3. Right-click the Administrator account and select Properties.
4. Uncheck the "Account is disabled" check-box and click OK on the administrator properties screen.
Now Win 7 admin account is enabled. To set a password for the enabled Windows 7 administrator account, follow the steps as below:
1. Right-click the Administrator account and select Set Password.
2. Click Proceed to go on your operation
3. Type and confirm your new Win 7 admin password and click Ok
4. Close the Local Users and Groups screen.
Now the Windows 7 administrator password is assigned to your Windows 7 admin account.
Part II: Reset lost Win 7 admin password
Windows 7 administrator password reset Tips:
Note 1. Please remember to create a Windows 7 password reset disk after assigning Windows administrator password. It allows you to change your forgotten Win 7 admin password when you are locked out of Windows.
Note 2. If you forgot to create the password reset disk, you can choose to use Windows Password Breaker to help create a Windows 7 password reset disk rather than reinstalling the system. Now follow the steps to create the disk to reset Windows 7 password.
step 1. Download and install Windows Password Breaker.
step 2. Run the program and burn a Windows password reset disk.
Step 3. Reset Windows 7 administrator password with the disk.
It is an easy and safe way for Windows 7 admin password reset.

Hi,
It is not a hardware issue. It is easy to install Windows 7 in your laptop but if you want to install Windows XP you have change the Hard Disk type to IDE. For that you have to change settings in your BIOS. After changing to IDE you can continue your installation normally as you done earlier...

Remove windows from acer aspire 5100

I think you have dual Os on it i.e Win XP & Win Vista. So, I am sorry to say that you can not access the full factory restore from the recovery partion. At this point, I would suggest you to contact the Acer Technical Supprt and order for RCD (Recovery Disk) inorder to wipe everything from the computer or you can use a Disk Manager utility to wipe everything from the computer. You can visit the below link to download the software

Will not run xp pro i'm stuck in 2000 mode mother board is ak77 pro 133 vt8233 will not run xp pro i've been told im pretty much sol. Is this true?

If you have a valid Win XP Pro CD and want to install the operating system you'll need to format your hard disk drive. If you have allot of data on you're hard disk drive, (In Win 2000) Suggest you create a second partition within the free space of you're hdd and install windows XP Pro. Boot you're system with the XP CD. Pay close attention to the display screens. Follow the instructions for creating a second partition.
Format the new partition. (Quick). Install windows XP on the new partition. Once completed you can copy your personal data to win XP.
If you choose to keep the win 2000 partition and you do not wish to have a dual boot system than remove/delete the root files from the 2000 partition. These files; Autoexec.bat and Boot.ini. You're new XP Boot.ini should read like this;
[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect /usepmtimer
Once you're satisfied an no longer need win 2000 use windows diskmgmt.msc from the run command to delete the win 2000 partition.
Win 2000 uses a FAT16 where Win XP uses the FAT NTFS.

Cheers!

Tried to reinstall xp but system has crahsed with message that " Disable or uninstall any antivirus, disk defragmentation or backup utilities. But I can not do anything as can not proceed beyond this...

You could probably boot-up with a bootable win xp copy and do the installation from thereon. This way you would be able to bypass an running application's that stopping you to run the installation within windows.

Gigabyte motherboard cd

You do not not need your motherboard CD to preform a format on your drive. Any windows CD. Win XP home, XP Pro, Win 2000 will format your hard drive. You can also use the hard drive's Mfg's utility disks & creat a bootable floppy disk or creat a bootable CDROM disk that will not only allow you to format the hard drive but also fun testing on the drive. You can even pick your cluster size & FAT file. Write down the name of your drive & model no#. Go to the Mfg's web site & download the utility software. Chances are Windows will have most of your boards drivers in it's data base. All you'll need to do is download from Gigabyte your missing drivers. You'll need you complete model no# & version no# if you can find it.
