your linkage may need adjusting. I had a problem like this when I put it in park, my reverse lights were on and it wouldnt re-start until i shoved the gear shift hard into park. Check this out first.
Yep it can be done but not using the players orignal handset and it is tricky . I did my friends player last night . See this thread for tips as you will need something that can be programmed with the correct hex codes to simulate the sony service remote http://www.videohelp.com/dvdhacks/sony-dvp-ns718h/10137
. This will work on your player to although it is a thread about the 718 model. I used my PSP to do it on both.

Yep, that means the hard drive is probably fried. I had that problem, ended up opening up the unit and found the hard drive making the standard 'bad drive' sounds (the head moving back and forth repeatedly, unable to read data, occasional clicking sound).. return it.
First, reset.
If that fails, then try to download the Sansa Connect Recovery Tool from: http://www.sandisk.com/Retail/Default.aspx?CatID=1532 If that still fails, upgrade the firmware from the Sansa website If that fails, uninstall the software from the installation CD and reinstall it from the Sansa website.
