You must set up your mailbox the first time you use your U.S. Cellular Voice Mail. Please ensure you are using your wireless device for the initial set up.

1. Access your mailbox by dialing *86 or your 10-digit wireless phone number + SEND
2. Follow these prompts to set up your mailbox:
   1. Choose English or Spanish as your language preference
   2. Set up your 4-10 digit password
   3. Record your voice signature
   4. Record or select your greeting
3. Start using your Mailbox Password

To protect your privacy, the new Voice Mail system doesn't allow "easy-to-guess" passwords, including repeating digits (3333), consecutive digits (1234 or 4321) or ascending or descending even/odd numbers (2468 or 7531). Your choice of a unique password will be an important step in protecting your Voice Mail service.

Try resetting the machine to it's defualt settings.

You have unheard messages on the voicemail system provided by your telephone company. This system records messages when someone calls while you're already on the phone. Please contact your telephone company for instructions on accessing their voicemail system.

If you do not have an answering system (answering machine) on the phone, you need to purchase a answering machine or contact your telephone service provider to get Voice Mail service from them. (Most charge $3-5 per month for voice mail.) The provider will tell you what number to call to set up a voice mail message and access messages.

OK. You have a phone set with an answering machine, yet you continue to pay MaBell for Voice-Mail. Is there any compelling reason. That was my feeling when I first read your question but I thought you might not like what I had to say, so I consulted the Uniden FAQ and here what they have to say.

If you Uniden phone has a digital answering machine, and you also have voice mail through your phone company, the message indicator light will not light up when you have a message in your voice mail system. We recommend you discontinue your voice mail and use the Uniden internal digital answering system.

The unit lets you know when you have new voice mail, in the following ways; "new voice mail" is displayed on the handset; The message indicator, on the handset, flashes slowly if message alert is on. If the handset still indicates messages that have been listened to turn it off by pressing and holding "CLEAR" until handset beeps.

Do you subscribe to a service package that includes voice mail? If so, to use that service turn off the answering machine; And use the instructions provided by your service provider. This is a "Voice Message Waiting Indicator" and it means that you have a new voice mail from your telephone service provider, or a new message on your answering machine. A lot of people do not even realize they have voice mail from their service provider because all the phone companies bundle services now. If you do not have a message on either you can reset the indicator by following the instructions in the manual

The first pat of your question involves access to the voice mail system. You can change it from a PC with software to access the system, or from the system manager's mailsbox (999). WHen the system was installed, you should have been given instructions and a password to that mailbox. You log into the manager's mailbox and select options 6 then 1 then 1 to edit or 3 to reset the password.
Easiest for you is to reset the password and make each mailbox owner do his own name, password, directory characters, and greetings.

There are at least 2 ways to get someone's call to voice mail. The first is by setting call forward at the phone. That's the *710x (VM) # that you dial from the intercom. My voice mail system is at ext 165, so I use *7104165# to send it to VM only when I don't answer. The 4th digit options are 2 for all calls, 3 for busy 4 for no answer, and 5 for busy/no answer. Once you set it, the FWD/DND button functions as a selector.

The second way is, if you know the person is not going to answer, you set up a VM Transfer button.
That's where you take a spare button of the 24, label it, and dial the following. PROG press the button 94 (VM) ENTER. Again, mine is 94165.

The 3rd way involves system programming and has to be set up by the system installer. It involves extension intercept and has timing parameters and destinations that need to be programmed.
