The answer is yes you need a key. You also seriously need to read the manual before you use this machine.

My NordicTrack E3000 will turn on but the walk belt won't turn. What are potential solutions for this?

If the NordicTrack E 3000 belt won't turn, there are a few things you can check to fix the issue:
  1. Power source: Make sure the treadmill is plugged in and the power switch is turned on. If the treadmill is not receiving power, the belt will not turn.
  1. Safety key: Check that the safety key is properly inserted into the console. The treadmill will not operate without the safety key in place.
  1. Belt tension: Check the tension of the belt by lifting it in the center. The belt should lift about 2-3 inches off the deck. If the belt is too loose or too tight, adjust the tension bolts at the back of the treadmill.

  1. Lubrication: Check the belt for signs of wear or dryness. If the belt is dry or worn, it may need to be lubricated or replaced. Apply a silicone-based lubricant to the belt if needed.

  1. Motor: Check the motor for signs of damage or wear. If the motor is not functioning properly, it may need to be repaired or replaced.

  1. Circuit breaker: Check the circuit breaker on the treadmill. If it has tripped, reset it and try again.
If none of these steps resolve the issue, it may be necessary to contact a professional technician for further assistance.

Nordictrack elite 900 - Does not power on

Sorry to hear that your NordicTrack Elite 900 treadmill stopped working. Here are a few things you can do to troubleshoot the issue:
  1. Check the power source: Make sure the treadmill is plugged into a working electrical outlet and the power cord is securely connected to the treadmill.
  2. Check the circuit breaker: Locate the circuit breaker on the treadmill and make sure it hasn't tripped. If it has, reset it and see if the treadmill powers on.
  3. Check the safety key: If the safety key is not properly inserted or damaged, the treadmill will not power on. Make sure the safety key is securely in place and not damaged.
  4. Check the fuse: Some treadmills have a fuse on the power supply board or control board. You can check the owner's manual to see if your treadmill has a fuse and where it's located. If the fuse is blown, replace it with a new one of the same rating.
  5. Check the motor: If the motor is faulty, the treadmill will not power on. You can use a multimeter to test the continuity of the motor. If the motor is not working, you may need to replace it.
  6. Check the control board: If the control board is not working properly, the treadmill will not power on. You can test the control board with a multimeter to see if it's receiving power and sending signals to other components.
If you're not comfortable troubleshooting these issues on your own, it may be best to contact a professional technician or the manufacturer for assistance.

NordicTrack A2550 Pro Treadmill. It was sitting in another room and started without the safety key in it.

Apparently the key is magnetic, so perhaps you had a magnetic event? Having said that, it shouldn't run unless switched on. Better to turn off at the mains when not in use.

I have a Nordictrack C1800s treadmill that the control panel lights up but none of the control buttons work. Do you know where I can find a schematic drawing for this?

I'm guessing that a schematic would be difficult to obtain because the Nordic Track design is proprietary. The incline up/down calibration might be running at start-up which can take a couple minutes, after which, the machine returns to "normal" and buttons now respond. If this is not you case then a repair person may have to intervene.

What is the safty key

the SAFETY key attaches to the console of the treadmill usually by a magnet and is linked to the users clothing so if they fall they pull the safety key off and the treadmill automatically stops. The treadmill will not work without the safety key in place

Squeaky treadmill

If this is actually emanating for the running belt then their is too much tension on the belt at the end of the belt their are two holes this is where you adjust the tension by using a 1/4" Allen wrench. start unit run it at about 3.0 mph turn the wrench 1/4 rotation at a time counter clockwise on each bolt until the groaning stops know if the belt slips at this point then the belt has been stretched and a new belt maybe required. On the lubrication you will need silicone lube and that can be purchased at iconfitness.com

Nordictrack apex4100i level incline will not work

Try this calibration procedure.
Turn the power switch on. Remove the safety key. Hold the Stop and Speed Up or Speed Plus buttons down then insert the safety key.
The display should show some numbers.
Press the stop key one time and the display should show some other numbers and some 00's. Press the Incline Up button and see if the Incline begins to move, if it does let it go all the way up and then all the way down, wait a few seconds after it stops, then hit the stop key 4 times. It should be calibrated. If it didn't move then the board or the incline motor is bad.
