You may try some asus data recovery tool, here's a good one:
Asus data recovery software
helped me last time. Easy to use.
If you upgraded by an ISO file, using the whole HDD, then you mighted delete the D2D partition which contains the recovery. If you have upgraded using the Microsoft website, the recovery aprtition should still be in the HDD.

Win7 has much of these features built in and you shouldn't need third part software all that much. HP support website should have drivers and files to use with win7 but you must only choose drivers for the 64bit as 32 wont work. Most applications will run and are not 32bit/64 bit specific. I am sure Win 7 has its own recovery software.
Win7 is the operating system vista should have been. The 64 bit system allows greater potential to be harnessed (eg it will see all 4GB of RAM instead of 3.5GB that a 32 bit system is limited to). I doubt there is any software HP installed that you actually need anymore now you have 7 installed.

One other thing you can try is a can of compressed air attach supplied straw, lift left button with fingernail give good few blasts of compressed air in the crevice to clean out any dust and dirt, some people dismantle the laptop for easier cleaning.

You can download the Microsoft virtual machine or another VM system.
Like this:
http://www.oracle.com/us/technologies/virtualization/oraclevm/index.html?sckw=srch:virtual-machine&SC=srch:virtual-machine
After install make a virtual hard drive on your VM machine of at least10 gig. Then add your DVD/CD rom drive to the VM and put yourinstall CD/DVD in the drive. Set VM machine to boot from CD.Install on VM hard drive from within the VM machine, Type in KEY code,Bam! you now have a win xp VM!(Note: Games and stuff may not work in the VM as they do not use your video card but a virtual video card that is pretty limited!)
It's a commom problem when you upgrade to a new OS, Win 8. You have to find the Win 8 drivers. Is that the only thing? In Device Manager, search for hardware changes, locate Win 8 drivers at ASUS website.
