I live in Spain, just bought a Gmini 100 MP3 and have the same error, can't read hard disk and Archos support in Europe say I have to return it to the retailer for a solution but Spain is no good at problem resolving! Looks like problem can't be resolved.

Can someone tell us what type of internal driver or hard disk this xs100 and possibly xs104 use? If it can be upgraded with a commonly-available format, it might be a win-win situation? If it uses the Seagate CF/CompactFlash format "photo hard drives", it would be (possibly) an easy matter of even getting a 16 or 32GB CF card for it? I don't own one, but am looking into buying one as a spare MP3 player. If the hard drive/memory could be upgraded, especially to solid state, that would be cherry. I read somewhere that it has an "upgradeable hard drive", but I'm not sure if that's true? Anyone want to crack theirs open, and give us the specs on the memory storage medium, and possibly post some photos somewhere?

I am not able to connect my achos to my pc or laptop. When I attached the cable from my achos to my system; it charges the battery but I cant access the hard drive and other files

If you plug the Archos when it is off, wait until main screen appears, press OK button when the message about charging pops up, then press MENu and scroll down to the USB options, select hard drive mode. Please read the manual you can download at Archos official site/support/downloads

Upgrade Hard drive to Solid State Drive

Hard drive error
Same exact problem let sit for several months went to turn on and all i could see was a "hard disk error" message flash very quickly and then turn off. after months of no help online i decided to open.

My jukebox 20 and there are 4 ni-cad batteries inside. i removed batteries and replaced with 4 "AA"
regular energizer batteries and it works fine. at least until i extract my 1000 songs and put them on another device so i ll never lose them.

Format Hard Drive Error

If the unit detects any form of Hard Drive Error it asks you to format the drive. Connect the unit to your PC and run ScanDisk or DOS Chkdsk on the drive. Will help to rectify any issues with the FAT. Windows XP & 2000 Running Check Disk Utility (ChkDsk) ? HARD DRIVE mode only If you still have problems with the file system on your AV 500 you can try to fix it using the DOS utility, check disk (chkdsk). Do the following; ? Make sure external AC adapter is powering the AV 500. ? Quit all running applications. ? Properly connect the AV 500 to your computer ? Wait patiently (up to 5 minutes) for Windows XP to show the local drive as mounted. ? Open a DOS window. Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt. ? At the prompt, type chkdsk e: /f . Use e: or f: or whatever drive letter is representing your AV 500. The /f argument tells the program to automatically fix errors. ? Be patient, this may take a while. ? When finished, exit the DOS Window and properly disconnect the AV 500 from your computer. Now try using the device. DO NOT try to defrag the drive. Let us know how you get on.

Klackitey Klack

If the drive is ticking, it suggests the actual HDD is dying. You can try the following to see if you can fix any disc errors through your PC, however if your PC does not recognise a drive has been attached you may be unable to do anything other than have it repaired elsewhere. If you have problems with the file system on your Gmini you can try to fix it using the DOS utility, check disk (chkdsk). Do the following; ? Make sure external AC adapter is powering the Gmini. ? Quit all running applications. ? Properly connect the Gmini to your computer ? Wait patiently (up to 5 minutes) for Windows XP to show the local drive as mounted. ? Open a DOS window. Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt. ? At the prompt, type chkdsk e: /f. Use e: or f: or whatever drive letter is representing your Gmini. The /f argument tells the program to automatically fix errors. ? Be patient, this may take a while. ? When it is finished, exit the DOS Window and properly disconnect the Gmini from your computer. Try using the device now and see if makes any difference. This method should help to fix any disc errors that have occurred within the FAT and help your PC recognise it again. If you have more problems, try formatting it using a DOS prompt. You MUST make sure NOTHING is trying to access the disc before you can format it - this includes windows explorer.
