SOURCE: MY HEAT PUMP SYSTEM WILL NOT WORK IN EMERGENCY MODE

the thermostat sub base has a place to connect a wire usually white to energize the heat strips when you push the stat way hotter than the house temp. that is why the strips come on in normal heat. it also has a terminal that is only energized in emergency heat and it also should have a wire connected to it so that terminal can supply power to the strips when the stat is switched into emerg heat . you can identify the terminal from the wiring diagram and if need be jumper w2 wire over to the aux terminal and it will work. they both go back into the airhandler and power the same strips. w2..................................................................................................w2 in airhandler to strips or w2...jumper to aux......................................................................................................................w2 in airhandler to strips.

SOURCE: my heat pump fan will not turn

First, with the unit not running, check to make sure the fan spins freely. Next check the capacitor. You can do that with a multimeter or look at it and if it looks swollen then it is most likely bad. Replace it with one of the same rating. If the capacitor is good then use an ohmmeter to check the fan motor windings. Also check the condition of your contactor and make sure the ciruit breakers are closed and the fuses are good. The breakers should be off before you check the capacitor, fan motor, and contactor.

Ford windstar limited shuts off when it wants to, HELP thank YOU.

Don't know for sure but my thought should be cheep to check out. I am thinking. I have had cars where electrical parts got over heated and stopped working. Had a car coil would get overheated and shut the car down. Had a car recently which the fan relay would over heat and the fan would quit working. After the relay cooled down the fan would work till the relay heated up again. I changed the relay and solved my problem.
My thought is if it run and stops running check the temp of your relays. for example if the fuel pump relay is a lot hotter than the other relays it might. be bad. When it shuts down just check the temp on you relays and see if any of them are a lot hotter than the others.
It shouldn't really cost anything as long as you can get out of the car and do it in a safe location.

Compressor relay switch

What temperature is this heat pump being run at? If it is low ambient temp outside this may be running in what is called defrost mode to where the compressor will run without a call for heat. This seems normal to me as long as the setpoint temperature is being reached.

My car over heats, when it gets hot and I shut it off, the fan comes on and stays on for about 30 sec. then goes off and doesn't come back on. Is their something wrong with my relay?

The fan switch could be faulty or worse case is you have combustion fumes being pushed into the cooling jacket. Yup blown headgasket. Take to a reputable shop and have them perform a block test.
The fan could also have an intermittent fault and not kick on all the time when the relay demands it on. Good luck!

Why does my fan keep running in my 2003 Volvo S 60 after the car is off?

It can be faulty fan relay. The relay is not turning the system off.Or its wire short issue.Even with ignition off ,the fan relay is getting power so its not letting the fan to turn off.Bypass the fan control relay and see if still the fan works with ignition off or not.

Radiator fan runs too much

You more than likely installed a high temp thermostat, which takes more heat to open than the factory one.
One way to solve this is to install a lower temp thermostat. Or you could try another temperature sending unit, That should run your fan like normal again. But if it doesn't try to swap your fan relay out.

1999 Alero overheating

Could be both your water pump and thermostat are faulty. Start with the simple and replace the thermostat and also did the engine over heat while you were stopped or in stop and go traffic, if you were then you may have a blown fuse or bad cooling fan relay that needs to be addressed. Check to make sure your Cooling fan is working, you can test this buy turning on your A/C on full and the fan should come one the same time your A/C clutch activates. If the fan does not function, inspect the electrical system to the cooling fans and replace the thermostat to ensure there will not be any issues in the summer time. Thermostat are know to go bad when they are over heated.
Thank you for using FIxya and good luck

Rheem RHQA Heater:Blower works but no heat.

Is there a setting on the thermostat for Auto or Fan? If so, make sure it is in the Auto setting. You will have a contactor that turns on the elements and a relay for the fan. Follow the wiring diagram to see which relay energizes the fan then unplug it to see if the fan stops.

Still want to shoot into a thermal runaway.

First of try to understand exactly what part you mention exactly how they work or function
  1. please place a new low speed relay as it try to make out thermal heating cool at it's initial 1st stage level of heating so that the temperature remain maintain if thus it reaches the second level of heating then the high speed relay act at that time & the speed of radiator fan increase to get thermal heating in control.
  2. the thermostat regulate the heating temperature of the engine it senses the temperature & signal to the relay the relay then react according to the temperature level of engine at low heating it operate the low speed relay & high temperature it signal to high speed relay so the engine temperature does not rise to extended level of heating or overheating.
  3. see for thermostat valve is failure if that so replace it new sometime most of the mechanic change it or cancel it so that the temperature does not rise as this thermostat help engine maintain it's ideal temperature which is required by the engine for regular or good working even at extreme climatic condition.
  4. Do check for every tensioner or Ideal Bearing as far consider on the No. of miles or Km the vehicle has run according to us the tensioner or ideal bearing are suppose to be replace at an interval of 30000 to 35000 Km. but this replacement include both Engine timing belt & tensioner & ideal tensioner bearing.
  5. A water pump flow depend on the tension of the drive belt some vehicle come with water pump which drive on inner timing belt tension & some on the fan belt or external tension belt of engine.
for further more FAQ do send in or place your problem we will sort it out till then have a safe drive & happy motoring from siddhanth.....!

Fan runs constantly on cool mode

Simple Question: Did you check to see if the fan switch on the
t-stat is in ON or AUTO? If ON the fan runs nonstop. If in auto the fan cycles with the outdoor unit.
next does the fan shut off if you turn the t-stat to off?
A stuck relay should keep the fan running all the time.
Sometimes if the relay is stuck you can whack the side of the Air Handler and the connection will break.
Sometimes instead of a relay there is a stack switch.
It's a little black stack of 3 disks this is a bi-metal switch.
they do get stuck more often than relays.
The fan relay may be on a electronic board. I don't know for sure without seeing your unit.
Good Luck Phil
