Win 98 in dos mode i get this message " no cd rom or msdex.exe is not loaded " when trying to acces game disk in cd rom

1) Does it say MSDEX.EXE or MSCDEX.EXE?

2) Have you ever used that CD successfully on that computer before? (DVD's don't work well in MS-DOS).

3) Verify its trying to run from the correct drive. D:, E:, etc...

That aside, I'd recommend a glance at the following support page. It sounds like your driver isn't supported or your game is referring to a specific drive that doesn't exist.

MSCDEX Help

(make a back-up copy your autoexec.bat, and rename it autoexec.bat.orig just in case)
Get an older compatible driver for your CD-Rom that is windows 98 compatible, so something around the year 2000 is probably ideal.
Uninstall your current driver and reboot. Scan for Hardware changes and install the new drivers for your CD-ROM. Then check your config.sys and verify the driver. If its not correct, open the autoexec.bat in an editor. in the portion of the autoexec.bat that has MSCDEX..exe program you'll put in the following. (replace DRIVERNAME with the driver name, typically MSCD001)

LH C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND\MSCDEX.EXE /D:DRIVERNAME

Save, reboot. Let me know how it goes!

I installed quicken 2011, but am unable to turn the quicken sound on, Iused quicken help, which told me to go to file menue>preference, I did that but when I opened file i did not have the...

Hi,

You can follow the following steps to have the sound enabled in Quicken 2011.

  1. Ensure your Quicken program has been updated to the latest release.
  2. From the Quicken Edit menu, choose Preferences, and then choose Quicken Program.
  3. Select Setup, and then select the Turn on Quicken sounds checkbox, and then click OK.
  4. If the issue persists, make sure that your speakers have not been muted and that the sound volume is correct (refer to your operating system's Help for instructions).
    Note:
Quicken sounds will only be available if logged in using the same user profile that was used to install Quicken.
  5. If Quicken is unable to produce sounds despite following the above instructions, Reinstall quicken in selective startup.

Note: This process requires you to restart your computer.
Restart your computer in Selective Startup Mode, and then install Quicken.
To restart the computer in Selective Startup mode:
  1. Click the Microsoft Windows Start button and select Run.
  2. In the Open field, enter MSCONFIG, and then click OK.
  3. On the General tab, select Selective Startup, and then select Load System Services (ensuring all others are unchecked).
  4. On the Services tab, in the area below the scrolling list, be sure that Hide all Microsoft Services is not selected.
  5. Click Disable all to clear all selected services.
  6. Select Windows installer, and then click OK.
  7. When prompted, click Restart.
  8. When your computer restarts, run the Quicken installation from the CD-ROM.
When you place the Quicken installation CD-ROM in your CD-ROM drive, the Quicken installation should start automatically. If it does not, you can start it manually:
    1. Close all open applications.
    2. Click the Microsoft Windows Start button and select Run.
    3. In the Open field, enter D:\INSTALL.EXE, where D is the name of your CD-ROM drive.
    4. Click OK, and then follow the on-screen instructions.
After the installation process completes, return your system to its previous configuration:
  1. Click the Microsoft Windows Start button and select Run.
  2. In the Open field, enter MSCONFIG, and then click OK.
  3. On the General tab, select Normal Startup.
  4. Click OK, and then click Restart.
the installation is not successful, try installing from your hard disk. For instructions see below.

Copying Quicken to your hard drive and installing it from there resolves many of the issues that can occur during installation.
  1. Right-click on your desktop and select New > Folder. This creates a folder named New Folder on the desktop.
  2. Place the Quicken CD-ROM in your computer's CD-ROM drive. If you are prompted to install Quicken, click No or Cancel.
  3. Click the Microsoft® Windows® Start button and select My Computer.
  4. Right click the CD-ROM drive with the Quicken CD and select Copy.
  5. Open the New Folder created in step 1.
  6. Select the Edit menu and select Paste. This copies the contents of the Quicken program from the CD-ROM to the hard disk. When the copy is complete, the DISK1 and Custom folders appear in the New Folder window.
  7. Double-click the DISK1 folder to display the contents, and then double-click Setup.exe.
  8. Follow the on-screen instructions.

Error Message 'F:\ setup.exe is not a valid win32 application'

This issue can be caused by any of the below possibilities.
  1. File is corrupt, bad, or missing.
  2. File is not designed for your version of Windows.
  3. File is a virus, worm, or other malware file.
  4. Hardware incompatibility.
Answer: File is corrupt, bad, or missing
If the file or program you're attempting to run is corrupt or missing, Windows will be unable to execute the file properly and sometimes generate this error message.
Download files
If you downloaded this file and verified it is complete and compatible with your version of Windows, delete the file and try downloading and running it again. It's possible during the download that the file became corrupted.
Finally, if the second download does not work, try downloading the file from a different webpage. It is possible that the person or company maintaining the website mistakenly uploaded a corrupt version of the file you're attempting download.
Installing a program from a CD or other disk
If you're attempting to install a program and are getting this error, verify that the CD is clean. If the CD is dirty or bad, you could get this error during the install and/or get this error after the program has been installed because it was not copied properly onto the computer.
  • Additional information about cleaning a CD can be found on our cleaning page.
Running a program from the computer
If you're running the program from a shortcut on the computer, verify that the program is still on the computer. In some cases if the program is no longer installed on the computer you may get this error.
If the hard disk drive is corrupted or bad it can also cause working programs to fail either because not all the data can be read from the hard disk drive or because the program has become corrupted while on the drive. Run scandisk and defrag on the hard disk drive to check for any potential errors.
Long file name issue
Make sure the program or file you're attempting to run does not contain the same name as the long file name directory it is contained in. For example, executing a file named "program" in the "program files" directory can cause errors in some versions of Windows.
Additionally, if you're attempting to install a program and after the install the program does not work, you may also want to try installing the program in a different directory.
Bad file
Any file can be changed or renamed to be a .exe file. If you're downloading the file, make sure the file is supposed to be a .exe file and that it's not being changed. If you're attempting to create a .exe, file make sure you're compiling the file for Windows and never just rename a file to a .exe file. For example, renaming a .bat file to a .exe file will not make the file an executable file. For a file to become an executable file it needs to either be compiled or converted through a software program designed to convert the file.
File is not designed for your version of Windows
If you're trying to run a program that is not designed for your version of Windows you may get this error. Although many older programs designed to work in older versions of Windows will work with new versions of Windows, unfortunately, not all programs will work.
  • If the program is an older MS-DOS program or early Windows program you may get this error.
  • If the program is designed for a 64-bit version of Windows and you're running it in a 32-bit version of Windows, it will not work and generate this error.

Programme does'nt open

here is the solution for your problem :
A problem has been identified when installing early pressings of the CD-ROM on machines running Windows 98 or Windows ME in conjunction with certain antivirus software and firewalls. The installation appears to be successful but the OALD 7 Compass program fails to launch with no error message given, or with a message "License data invalid".
Should you encounter this problem:
  1. Download oald7.zip (4.5 megabytes)
  2. Unzip oald7.zip to extract the oald7.exe program
  3. Ensure your OALD 7 Compass CD-ROM is in your CD-ROM drive
  4. Replace the old oald7.exe file on your computer (this is usually found in c:\Program Files\Oxford\OALD7) with the new oald7.exe file you have downloaded
  5. You should now be able to run the OALD 7 Compass software
If the download doesn't work, we can send you this file on a CD-ROM - please email us , and tell us your full postal address. You will need to copy the update file to your hard drive to install it, as you will need your OALD 7 Compass CD-ROM in your CD-ROM, as above.
Please email [email protected] if you require further help.
