You need to upgrade the firmware. check the nec website.

that would be nice if the website had a firmare upgrade, but sense the projector is from 2000 and at this point 12 years old there is no trace of any firmware

There are blueish-purple crystal-like distortions in the projected image. They actually can be brought into focus to look at, and at that point the projected image is extremely out of focus. So, obviously,...

either there is something on the inside of the lens, or there is something on the lcd prism face. if it was the lcd panel, it would be in focus with the picture. take it in for a good cleaning.

Hi kmarie01

This is most probably a faulty Ballast ( lamp's powersupply ) that will have to be replaced before the Projector will come on at all.

NEC MT800 Projector with Vertical Lines in picture

The ghosting problem is a combination of both the lcds and driver boards in which case neither need to be truely replaced.. They use a specific voltage to transmit data to the lcds.. Each lcd is different and the driver board is programmed by the factory for the EE v.com setting. Unfortunatly with nec, they do not offer a service mode to go in and adjust the ee settings to correct the electrical convergance. So the only way to fix the problem is to replace the lcd with a newer one who wasnt worn out from long term heat.
