My needle plate has a spring pin to hold it to the machine. The spring pin that holds it has come off. Can I buy a new pin?
It is a singer 4525 Merritt. I took off the bottom of the sewing machine and I have the spring but nothing to keep it on the pin. I was taking off the needle plate and when I used a tiny screw driver to raise the pin on the left, it seemed to give to much and broke.

You have to work the thread from the spool to the needle from right to left. The threading pattern goes to the first guides, then forward and down, up and back down through the guides. First raise the presser foot and turn the hand wheel (turn towards yourself) until the thread take-up lever is at the highest point. Place the spool on the spool pin. (For best results, make sure that the catch for holding the thread is at the bottom of the spool pin.) From the spool pin, bring the thread to the left and through the two guides at the back of the machine. Bring the thread forward and through the top guide above and to the right of the thread tension discs. Bring the thread down and between the two tension discs. Bring the thread around the tension discs and use the thread to pull the tension spring to the right. This will hook the thread on the guiding plate. Bring the thread up to the thread take-up lever and thread it through from back to front. Bring the thread down and through the two guides above the needle. Then thread the needle from front to back. Leave about a 6" tail behind the needle.
I have a feeling that your bobbin case is not properly seated, and it's easy to do. If it isn't, it will prevent the needle plate from seating properly.
There is a pointed part on your case at about 5 o'clock that must be resting against a spring in the same position. In addition, take a look at it visually; it is easy to put it in so it is slightly lopsided. (How would I know that?) Make sure all four sides are evenly resting in the bobbin basket (holds the bobbin case). I find it easier to insert it so that it is slightly clockwise of it's proper location, then turn it counterclockwise into place.
Also, download (free) your user's manual from the Singer site; it is pictured on page 80.
Well, the good news is you can download your user's manual free if you go to the Singer Sewing Machine site. Just select Support, and there is an Instruction Manual option. Enter the model number, 7050, and it is pictured and explained there, beginning on page 15.
You have a Touch 'n Sew slant needle machine, which means you can buy additional feet, as long as they are slant needle ones, and they're very widely available.
Another good feature is those machine wind the bobbin right in place. I have had several of these machines for many years, and frankly, it's my favorite, most trouble-free method.
Bobbins are also widely available; however, your bobbin is available with or without a center button. Yours HAS the center button.
if upper thread correct, check bobbin is wound and inserted correctly. Pulling bobbin thread, the bobbin should turn counter clockwise. make sure thread is under bobbin case tension spring. With cover plate open hold needle thread and turn hand wheel towards you to see if hook picks up needle thread and passes it around bobbin case. if not check hook timing
try a new needle first, then if the needle doesn't line up with the needle plate, then the machine needs a ajustment or has a timing problem and needs to be checked at a sewing machine shop
