Hello Derek;

My name is Peter. I am a retired field service refrigeration technician.

In answer to your question, the drain pan is removable. This drain pan is available for purchase. The problem is both Samsung and LG are not service friendly. The drain pan is not secured with fasteners and just lifts up.

However, There is the interference from the seal system (refrigerant) tubing and compressor which prevents you from pulling the drain pan out.

On my service calls with drain pan leakage, I just repaired the drain pan with duct tape an silicone adhesive. Because I could not get the drain pan out with out moving the compressor.

Both, Samsung and LG are the worst service friendly and highest cost for repair.

Testimonial: "Thank you for your help. It would be nice if LG and Samsung put the drip trays in the front of the fridge. Thanks again."

SOURCE: SAmsung Service Manual

I fixed my problem with the fan not working in the refrigerator section. It ended up being the fan motor. The way I nailed it down was to temporarily switch the wires to the fan motors in the connector on the circuit card. This electrically powered the freezer fan from the refrigerator side and visa versa. The fan still worked in the freezer side (running of the refrigerator circuit) and was still inop on the refrigerator side proving that there was nothing wrong with the circuit card or possible other factors driving that circuit (other than the fan motor). I ordered and installed a new fan motor (about $50) and now everything works fine. It seems that the original problem caused the circuit card to shut down voltage to the bad fan motor that's why when you checked the voltage from the circuit card, it was nill causing you to falsely believe that it was not the fan motor. Yes, I did a resistance check on the fan motor and it was very close to being the same as the freezer motor (same part number).

SOURCE: Door Removal

If you don't have the manual, go to Samsung's website and download the manual. It explains how to remove and adjust the doors and bottom drawer.

How do I clean the drip pan

You have to pull the refrigerator from the wall to gain access to the rear panel. Remove the screws and look to see the drip pan. Do Not Try To Remove! Big pain in the but, and you will probably break something in the process. You have to be creative what you use. Try a rag or paper towels on a stick to try to wipe the mold and what ever is in there. Then put a cap full or two of bleach in the drip pan to kill any remaining mold and discourage growth of new mold. Your refrigerator will defiantly smell better. Assuming that is why you are cleaning the drip tray.

The evaporator pan in the bottom of you refrigerator may be out of place, damaged or missing. there also may be a problem with the drain tube being bent and not dripping into the pan. How do i replace the cracked drip pan in the french door refigerator

  • Unplug the refrigerator from the power source and remove the decorative vent cover at the bottom of the fridge under the door. Some vent covers are screwed on but many just snap onto clip that hold them in place.

  • Pull gently on the exposed front edge of the drip pan and ease it out towards you. The drip pan slides on runners on each side of the bottom of the refrigerator. It may be full of liquid or debris so go slow and steady and then discard it.

  • Line up the new drip pan with the two side guides beneath the refrigerator and slide into place. Use the flashlight if to make sure the drip pan is in the groove on each side.
  • Clean and replace the vent cover by clipping or screwing it into place. Plug the refrigerator back into the power outlet

How do i remove a drip pan from a kenmore refrigerator

The drip pan collects water when the freezer goes into a defrost cycle. Most times there is very little water and the water evaporates quickly. When there is a problem with the freezer or the water does not evaporate between defrost cycles, the drip pan fills with water. If the front bottom of your refrigerator has a grille, you access the drip pan from the front. If there is no grille, access the drip pan from the rear.

    Instructions
    Rear Access

1 Unplug the refrigerator from the wall outlet. Pull the refrigerator away from the wall so that you can access the rear of the refrigerator.

2 Look under the refrigerator with a flashlight and locate the drip pan. Often when people install refrigerators they neglect to pull the packing from around the drip pan. The drip pan may have tape or styrofoam around it.

3 Remove any packing material away from the drip pan and pull the drip pan out from under the refrigerator.

    Front Access

4 Pull the grille at the bottom of the refrigerator below the refrigerator door with your fingers. The grille secures to the refrigerator with plastic clips.

5 Remove any debris from the access area and throw the debris in the trash. The coils and fan under the refrigerator attract dust and dirt. Clean out the area with a lint brush if you have one.

6 Pull the drip pan out from under the refrigerator.
