Hello Charliebigwh, hi technically your monitor's power supply has a problem, this is either your switching regulator does not work or there is a short in that section, If you want to do it your self, need to replace all large value, and or high voltage capacitors(especially the capacitors with its top is bubbly), need also to replace the switching IC, and power transistor.
Have it checked by a technician if you cannot do the work.
check with your cable company some channels are switching to digital already and if your tv is analog it wont pick them up. tell them you want a box and you wont have this problem. i know you ddont want to pay extra for the box but come febuary no box no tv so best get it overwith now sorry its sucks i know
Any set that won;t turn on is probably due to a power supply converter which has burned out switching semiconducors. The first thing to do with a set which will not turn on is to check out all the switching gear (ie switchmode converter circuits) and all associated drive and driver semiconductor devices. Once you've done this you will usually find the problem.
