The DVD tray won't open, either with the remote or just pushing the open button. Nothing is blocking the tray. There is a DVD inside I need to take out.The DVD tray won't open, either with the remote or just pushing the open button. Nothing is blocking the tray. There is a DVD inside I need to take out.

For my Sony DVD SR750HP model I faced the problem of tray locked. Read in some Sony manual to press and hold simultanously Open+Play+Stop buttons on the DVD player to unlock. However this did not work.
Then I did actions as follows.
Procured a universal Remote for Sony with Top Menu, clear,Menu,Off/on buttons which is a bit different than the remote supplied with the sony DVD.
Next connected the DVD to TV. Put it on Standby mode.
Then press Top Menu > Clear > Off/on. The DVD came on and there is a TV image indicating a menu with history and versions etc in sl nos 0 to 5.
Next press 4 to go to version menu and press menu>clear. The TV screen shows initiating reset.....
Wait for some time and press 0(zero number button)on the remote. The TV screen comes back with the old menu with history and versions etc. Now press 3 and the TV screen shows the history page with some numbers.
Next press menu>clear.
Now you have completed the task and the Tray is unlocked.
Had the same prob with a sony dav dz it kept saying locked but after hours and hours of pressing random combinations it came off im sure it was unplug plugback in then hold power and open tray and tap stop or a combination of those buttons.i woud try it again on mine to make sure but i do not want to lock it again.

The Disc Tray is Locked
If the message “Tray Locked” appears on the screen, the retail lock feature has
been accidentally engaged. To unlock the disc tray you must press and hold a
combination of keys simultaneously:
On the front panel of the DVD Player, press and hold the STOP, ON•OFF and
OPEN•CLOSE buttons for at least 3 seconds.
I forget the password Your player is equipped with a “back-door” unlock sequence. Press and hold
the STOP button on the front of the DVD Player and the STOP button on the
remote control at the same time. (Hold both buttons down at the same time
for at least 3 seconds).
have you tried to unplug the unit from the mains power wait around a minute and power back on if not press the setup button on the remote and reset to factory defaults.
Do not have better news. You can unscrew the player, and see if dust is stuck in the gear that controls the dvd opener, or check the online dvd repair guys. But, really, it is cheaper/less of a hassle to get a new one.
Hey I just found out how to UNLOCK the tray Power up the unit, wait for it to read the disc if one is inserted. hold the stop button and the power button down together for 5 seconds the display will show UNLOCKED Open/close button should be restored
After working with my technolocically challenged mother on the phone for about an hour we found out that pushing the power button on the remote control and the stop button on the DVD player at the same time will unlock the DVD player. Hope this helps.
To unlock, manually press and HOLD the open/close button & the stop button simultaneously, and HOLD them both down until the lock picture disappears. The DVD will eject when you press the open/close button.
To lock the DVD inside the machine, repeat the same step, and it will lock it inside.
same as above locked tray
