I have just replaced the carbon brushes on my Bosch classic 6 washing machine and wasn't convinced that I put one of them the right way round. The motor is now working ok but it is making a highish pitched noise when the motor is turning. Could this happen if one of the carbon brushes is the wrong way round?
Re: I have just replaced the carbon brushes on my Bosch...
I would not think putting the brush in the wrong way round would make a high pitched noise. I would look for something rubbing against the drum or check the bearings of the drum or armature of the motor.
Ok than you, if I did put one brush on the wrong way round, 1. Do you think the motor would work and 2. Would it do any damage?Ok than you, if I did put one brush on the wrong way round, 1. Do you think the motor would work and 2. Would it do any damage?

F21 is motor fault - check the carbon brushes in the motor and replace if needed.
But first please try to reset the machine, turn the program knob from the off position (12 o'clock) to the 6 o'clock position and immediately press and hold the spin button. Then while holding the spin button turn the knob to 7 o'clock position and continue holding spin button for 15 seconds.
Then REPLACE CARBON BRUSHES (something happend with the commutator on the motor, in most case the brushes

slip belt off pully
unplug motor wires

reasonable in reverse of removal
It is likely that the Carbon Brushes of your Bosch washing machine need replacement. Get them from your nearest Bosch Spares stockist (P/N: 154740) Replace these on the motor armature, and it will be alright again. To be certain that it is indeed the Carbon brushes, open your washing machine and look on the motor (opposite side of the pulley) There has to be 2 grayish chalk type brushes running on a copper armature, these brushes have a lifetime of about 4 - 6 years before being diminished.
Hope this helps

It sounds like a snapped belt or a broken motor.
Can you here the motor run?
You can access the motor and the belt from the back of the machine.
If it is the belt snapped, this is easy to replace yourself.
If it is the motor, you will need a repair man.
Remove rear panel of washer.
Remove drive belt.
Unscrew the 2 bolts that hold motor to tub back.
Remove motor plug
Lever notor back with a screwdriver or similar, keeping a firm hold on motor.and remove motor
At the rear end of motor away from pulley you will see the brushes and the armature.
Remove brushes, and if there is less than 4 or 5mm of carbon left, then replace them.
Lightly clean the armature with emery cloth.
Refit in reverse order. Test.
Plz rate my solution.
Thanks.
Remove rear panel, remove drive belt.
Unplug motor lead, undo 2 screws securing motor.
Lever back motor with screwdriver, remove motor..Carbons at opp end to motor pulley, remove and replace same.
u can sometimes tip the washer backwards and with a torch u should be able to see the carbon brushes and the 2 star screws which hold them in undue these screws and the carbon brushes will pop out very easily for u to change them m8
