Question about Samsung UN40HU6950 40 Inch Ultra Smart

2 Answers

I can't get audio to work on my Samsung UN40HU6950F UHD TV HDMI 1 input using the Time Warner Cable Cisco 4742HDC cable box.

When I hook up the HDMI cable from the Tiime Warner Cable Cisco 4742HDC box to the Samsung UN40HU6950F Samsung HDMI 1 input I get a beautiful picture but no audio. Same with HDMI 2 and 4. But I do get audio and video on the HDMI 3 input. When I connect the TV to the bedroom Time Waner Motorola DCX3510M DVR box, all 4 of the HDMI inputs on the Samsung TV work. The TWC tech says it is a problem with the TV and insisted on connecting using the component inputs. I told him that wasn't acceptable since the component inputs are analog, not digital. When I called the Samsung tech, they said it was a TWC problem. Any idea why the TWC box won't work on 3 of the 4 HDMI inputs on the Samsung UN40HU6950F?

If all 4 inputs work with another input source(i.e. your Motorola box) it indicates the issue is with the TWC input source. Also check your HDMI cable to be sure it is in good condition & properly plugged in on both ends.

Yes, you can. You would need to hook the cable box up to the tv using an HDMI cable for it to work. Hope it helped!

Picture in picture operation & connection to dvd player

Now--first--connect the DVR cable box HDMI output to the HDTV HDMI input (use the lowest numbered one e.g. HDMI 1) for this connection. Use a standard (not Monster brand) HDMI cable for this connection. Then turn on the TV, turn on the cable box and switch the TV to the HDMI input. A picture should come on. You may even hear the audio on the TV speakers. If so, that is OK.

Then--connect the component video output of the DVD HT to the TV component 1 input. Use a three wire component video cable with red, blue and green connectors on each end. Connect color to color on both ends. Then turn on the DVD, put a DVD in the player and start it running. Switch the TV to the component input and it should show a pix. The audio will come from the DVD player speakers.

If your DVD player does have an HDMI output, you can use it and just connect as above to the second TV HDMI input.

To get audio from the cable box out of the DVD player speakers, you will need to connect an audio cable from the cable box go the HT amplifier. Use a set of RCA patch cables and go from the analog audio output of the cable box to the rear panel audio inputs of the DVD player. The owners manual for this unit will give directions on using this input. Since your HT unit does not have any other inputs, you will not be able to get Dolby Digital audio.

Hope this gives you food for thought. If so, and you have more questions, just come back in with a follow up.

Good luck. Remember, the owners manuals all have hook up connections diagrams. Sometimes they will help.

Dont forget to rate me as fixya..

My new 50-inch Samsung UHD 6500 has no sound when I watch cable TV. When I test the sound on the TV itself, it works fine.

if you have cable box: replace with a known good audio (wires) or hdmi cable from box to tv.

Got the digital set up box from Time Warner Cable but they did not include hook-up instructions.

If you have an HDTV, you can hookup HDMI cable from set-top-box to the HDTV's HDMI input and select that input on the TV using your remote. If you have analog TV, you can hookup using RCA cables (yellow to yellow, white to white). You could also call Time-Warner for assistance.

I have Time Warner cable. I have a Symphonic SR90VE vcr/dvd that I have hooked up to the main TV. The cable box services a second tv in another room. I can't seem to get the main tv and the vcr/dvd player...

Cable goes to vcr cable INPUT, then run cables from vcr OUPUT to tv INPUT or AV.

Then put tv on input or av channel or channel 4 and use put the vcr on the channel you want to record.

When I connect HDMI from a Time Warner DVR to my Vizio thru a DVI/HDMI adapter, I get no sound. I can only get sound if I use Component input (RGB+ audio R&L). Is this a DVR issue or a Vizio issue?

Use the Time Warner remote and hit the settings button twice. Scroll down to "audio: digital out" and select HDMI. That solved it for me.

The only issue I have now is that I also have component sound outputs going from the cable box to a receiver. When I turn off the TV while the HDMI cable is hooked up to both the box and the tv the sound goes out to the receiver...

Connection problem with HDMI cables on Denon AVR-589

Hello,
I want to clairify you install, you sat you have I an HDMI cable running from the Time Warner Cable box to the AVR-589, going in to the TV/CBL input. From the Denon AVR-589, I have an HDMI cable running from the output to my Toshiba RV525U television.

Check the connection at the TV, if as you indicated above you have an HDMI cable from the HDMI out from the Denon to an HDMI output on the TV, if this is the case you need to have that HDMI cable plugged into an input on the TV not an output
