Question about Dakota LY43 Ceramic Compact Heater

1 Answer

Hi my vulcan gas wall heater goes 'bang' after a few minutes of operation. It sounds like a gas explosion but I can't detect any leak.

It sounds like delayed ignition, this is VERY dangerous, you need to verify sequence of operation and fuel air mixture.

It sounds like you are using a natural gas fired heater and your fuel is propane. If this is the case, you need to buy a propane conversion kit.

Does Vulcan Pyrox gas wall furnace have a filter? It seems to cycle on and off too often and the gas seems too high. Also it makes a bang when reigniting. How can I turn the gas down inside it?

get it serviced by a licenced gas fitter / plumber. Should be serviced every two years. Don't risk your life via carbon Monoxide poisoning get a licenced gas fitter /plumber to assess the unit.

I just had a new COZY L.P. GAS CDV336C installed... Every few minutes it makes a loud bang noise...It then makes pinging noises that gradually fade out...This happens 2-4 times every hour. The bang is loud...

Hi Loretta:
I'd contact the installer. This sounds as if there may be a slow leak. When the gas concentration is high enough it will ignite which would be the bang that you hear. The popping sound could be the flame at the leak source point re-igniting for a few times.
DEFINITELY CONTACT YOUR INSTALLER OR GAS INSPECTOR. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD.

MY WILLIAMS WALL GAS HEATER MAKES A LOUD BANG AFTER A FEW MINUTES ON

Question, is this bang a metal sound or like a small poof of a gas burner? If it is a metal "bong", it is the heat exchanger expanding. You could hit the combustion chamber with a hammer causing a dent (really) and it may take the noise away. If it is a "poof", it should be looked at by a technician.

Bang (like explosion)

you have a gas leak in the housing the heater is in, or the balanced flue system is leaking, i.e. flue gasses are mixing with the combustion air.

Explosive Ignition

Check the alignment of the igniter to burner. It should be in the flame of the burner but to one side or just below. Does the igniter glow about 15 seconds prior to the gas valve opening or just a second or two. The igniter should glow 10-15 seconds prior. If the temperatures outside are unseasonably cold, you could be experiencing a gas regulator condition. If so, as the temperature rises, the condition would lessen. Call your gas company to get the regulator tested and gas pressure checked.
