the tom tom comes with a usb cable that plugs it to the usb port on the computer. When pluged in to the usb port it should automaticly take you to the tomtom web sight where you can download maps
You would use your windshield mount and suction it to the plastic horse shoe mount as a dash mount, and there is tons of other mounting options that you may wish to look at.
You can find many different TomTom mouting solutions such as vent mount, viser mount, cup holder mount, vehicle specific mount, windshield mount along with dash mount options at www.autonavdirect.com or www.autonav2000.com.
Good Luck
Yes, you can mount the TomTom on your dash.
And yes, the circular piece of hard plastic is for that. One side should have a waxed paper covering a sticky surface (or, depending on your model, you may have received a double-sided sticky circle to stick on the hard plastic circle).
The suction cup mount should be attached on a clean, flat surface. If the windshield is too dirty or curved you'll have problems. Try first to find as flat spot as possible and then clean the glass with dish-washer liquid (the type you use for hand wash - not for the dish-washer machine) or similar agent.
Are you talking about the easyport mount on the XL 330S model? If so it applies fairly easily in a secure snap. When I tested out the new mount, it was fairly easy to snap on without any added pressure. TomTom has great customer service and I'm sure they'll help out to the best of their ability and if it was in fact defective, you're bound to get a replacement. TomTom doesn't want any unhappy consumers. It's a shame it broke, because it is actually a great device.
I have owned an off brand GPS unit for about 3 years and wanted to upgrade to a TomTom GPS unit. I have recently purchased a TomTom ONE XL. The TomTom will not stay mounted to my windshield. I have cleaned the suction cup and the windshield and nothing has helped. After the unit has been mounting for about 30~45 minutes it will fall off the windshield. I am afraid if this continues my TomTom GPS unit will be damaged. I have never had this problem before and as I mentioned earlier, I have owned a GPS unit for about 3 years. I noticed that the TomTom mount is very cheap built. Can you send me a better mount for my TomTom One XL? I am very disappointed in the unit so far and I only owned it for about 2 weeks.
