If it's a battery operated clock you might try new batteries, check the speaker wires to make sure they're connected, and or not broken. If neither help, and you've had this clock for a good while then it's probably time for a new movement. If it's a key wind, make sure it's wound completely. If it's a modern clock ( 10 to 20 yrs. old) you might try moving the minute hand( the long one) from the 12 to the 9 counter clockwise, and then back to the 12. You should hear a slight click when going backwards. This will sometimes cause the mechanism to free up if it's jammed. If you've had this clock at least 3-5 yrs. and have not had it cleaned and oiled, it could be that it's lost power either due to sticky, or dry springs, or worn bushings, and scorn pivots. If this be the case it's time to have it serviced by your local clock doc, or one that you trust. You might google clock repair in your area. If you happen to be in middle Tn. stop by and let me take a look. I do not charge to give estimates, or opinions. Hope this helps, Good Luck

How to get a sterling and noble chiming clock time set

To set the time on a Sterling and Noble chiming clock, please follow these steps:

Remove the clock from the wall or mantle and place it on a flat surface.
Locate the clock's time adjustment knob. This is usually located on the back of the clock and may be labeled "Time," "Adjust," or "Set."
Turn the knob clockwise or counterclockwise to set the correct time. Be sure to move the hands of the clock in the direction of the correct time.
If your clock has a chime feature, locate the chime adjustment knob. This may also be located on the back of the clock and may be labeled "Chime," "Strike," or "Silent."
Turn the chime adjustment knob to the "Silent" position if you do not want the clock to chime. If you want the clock to chime, turn the knob to the desired chime setting.
Once you have set the time and chime settings, replace the clock on the wall or mantle.
Note: It is important to set the time accurately and synchronize it with an accurate time source, such as an atomic clock, to ensure that the clock keeps accurate time. Additionally, it is recommended to consult the clock's user manual for specific instructions and troubleshooting tips.

I have a Bulova B1987 mantel clock. I bought it in December 2022. It is now March 2023 and it has stopped chiming. It keeps perfect time, just won't chime.

There are a few potential reasons why your Bulova B1987 mantel clock has stopped chiming:
  1. Check if the chime switch is in the "on" position. If it is not, switch it to "on".
  2. Make sure that the clock is wound fully. A clock that is not fully wound will not chime.
  3. Check if the chime melody selector is in the "off" position. If it is, move it to a melody position.
  4. If the clock has been moved or bumped recently, the chime hammers may have been knocked out of alignment. This can be fixed by a professional clock repair person.
  5. The chime rods or hammers may be damaged or worn out. This can also be fixed by a professional clock repair person.
If none of these solutions work, it may be best to contact a professional clock repair person for assistance in fixing the clock's chime.

Hour chime randomly chimes 60 or 70 times

A worn chime cog wheel will not reset or advance the count. Unless you're good at making gears, you'll need a decent clock repair guy in your area.

I have an estate mantel clock that has started to chime on the 1/2 hr as opposed to the hour. it is chiming the correct time.

It could take an horologist a while to sort out why it suddenly changed. It isn't unusual for a chiming clock to chime at the quarters and half-hour as well as chiming and striking the hour. A quality clock usually allows the manner of chiming/striking to be selected and sometimes even the volume can be altered.

If your clock used to chime and strike the hour and now doesn't and appears to have slipped by exactly 30 minutes clearly something is happening. In the old days such things were often the result of turning the hands backwards to reset the time - that type of clock should be reset only by turning the hands forward and pausing at each quarter, half and hour to allow the chiming of each to complete. Most folk simply stop their clocks and wait for time to catch up...

It is also reckoned such a clock should not be kept next to an exterior wall but rather in a place where the temperature and humidity is the most stable.

The chimes will not chime on the quarter hour and half hour - just the full hours. This happened after we set the clock back for daylight saving time. How can I correct this?

The clock probably thinks its night / early morning so it stopped chiming on the quarter hour. Move the clock forward 12 hours. It should correct itself to think its day time instead of morning.

After spot cleaning mantle clock with German movement (circa 1960), the clock chimes properly on the hour but does not chime on the half hour.

I am hoping that you oiled it also? One trick I have found is to gently lift the hammers and release, sometimes the hammers will release and strike the chimes/gong. Do this 4-5 times and hopefully it will get it chiming for you again.

My clock chimes the correct amount of chimes on all hours except 7. At 7 it chimes 5 times

In a quartz movement clock, with a problem like this, the chime box (or whole movement) will need to be replaced. Timesavers.con carries a large selection of chiming quarts movements.

Timex westminster anniversary chime clock doesn't chime correct number

Take the batteries out from the base, where the chime mechanism is. Wait till it gets close (20 seconds till) to a specific hour time, like 8:00 or 9:00, replace the batteries for the chime mechanism. And then count the chimes at the hour. If they are correct, you are set. If they are incorrect, turn the time back 15 minutes before the hour and bring it right back and monitor the chimes again. Hopefully this should fix it. Please post the results.

If you manually set the time, the chimes will be off unless you wait for the chiming to finish before continuing to turn the hands.
