Buttons on Kenmore HE3 washer not working. Can only get delicate cycle to work and options on right hand side (water temp, spin speed, etc) not working.

  • pudduc Jul 09, 2009

Thanks. My husband did that and it is now working. You also pressed a few buttons at the same time and that seemed to help reset it. It's temporary but it's better than the $300 for replacing the control panel.

I have the same problem. It started a few weeks ago. I did get it to work for a while by unplugging from the wall outlet. When you plug back in, you can choose one clcle and it will work. I repeated this 3 times and it went back to normal for 3 weeks until today. Trying to find a true permanent fix. unplugging and replugging resets something, will work temporarily

I had a similar problem. I took apart the front panel and found some detergent had spilled onto the bottom of the control board. It was probably causing a short. I cleaned it with rubbing alcohol and a q-tip. No problems, two weeks running!

Kenmore HE3 starts by itself in "delicate" was cycle and fills with water when not in use. Can all this be caused by a bad selonoid??

Check that the machine is not on an auto delayed start. Strange that it starts itself. If a solenoid fails, 2 things happen. They either don't let water in at all, or they don't stop letting water in. If its not on an auto delayed start, I suggest that it could be a faulty main control board . You can stop the machine by turning the water off and switching the machine off at the socket when not in use.

HE3 doesn't respond to any button. Time light keeps flashing time. Pause cancel button does nothing, Cycle doesn't start. The only thing that will change is if you push a different mode ie, heavy,...

Unplug the machine for at least half an hour to eliminate the possibility of an electronic glitch. Then upon plugging in back, close the door then push CONTROL/ON (if present on this model). Select the DRAIN/SPIN cycle then select NO SPIN by pressing the SPIN SPEED button. Push PREWASH OPTION four times within five seconds. If PREWASH OPTION is not present on this model, press EXTRA RINSE four times within five seconds. C:00 will light up on the display. If the Starting procedure fails, push the PAUSE/CANCEL button then repeat the starting procedure.

In order to advance to the next step of the test procedure, push PREWASH OPTION button two times. If PREWASH OPTION is not present on this model, press EXTRA RINSE two times. The test program goes from C:00 to C:08 and should flash an error code when a problem is present. Post the code back for further troubleshooting, including the exact model number of the machine.

Kenmore Elite HE3 Error FH I forgot to turn the water hoses on when I started a load. The FH error sounded at 33 minutes of a 45 minute cycle. I can't reset the machine now. It is stuck. It is unplugged....

according to kenmore, you should press the "pause/cancel" button twice and it should release it.  it may also have locked up the CCU, central control module and might need to be replaced.

Kenmore HE3 washer stopped at 11 minutes left in cycle and just hums. Won't drain rest of water or spin out. Help!

Something must be stuck in your pump's impeller and not allowing to spin and send the water down the drain. Remove the rubber boot seal and check the impeller for obstructions. The pump is located at the base of the washer on the right side.

Kenmore Elite H3 control buttons - some work some don't

The diagnostic function will not help you if your user interface board (UIB) is acting up because to put into diagnostic you have to select drain spin, then the no spin option, and hit the prewash button 4 times.

It sounds like your UIB is the problem.

Will not spin,

Is the Delicate or Hand Washables cycle selected?
Spin speeds can vary by the cycle that is selected. Your washer is designed so that in certain cycles, such asDelicate or Hand Washables cycles, the spin speeds are slower. In these cycles, more water is retained in the load at the end of the cycle to keep delicate fabrics from shrinking and wrinkling. Select the appropriate cycle based on the fabric being washed.
Was an Extra Low, Low or No Spin option selected?
Select the highest spin speed for the fabric being washed. If extra low spin or no spin was selected, the washer may not remove enough water from the load.
Were you washing one bulky item, such as a rug or large blanket?
Consider adding more items to help balance the load during spin. Select $FL-drainspin cycle and restart the washer. Your washer is designed to detect an unbalanced load and automatically lower the spin speed. Unbalanced conditions are more likely to occur with a single, bulky item.
Are excessive suds present?
Use only HE High Efficiency detergent. Using non-HE detergent or more than the manufacturer's recommended amount of detergent can cause excessive suds. The excess suds can cause the washer to run at a reduced spin speed, which will result in very wet loads.
See also: Why HE High Efficiency detergent is required.
Is the drain hose kinked or is the drain clogged?
Make sure the drain hose is not kinked. Straighten the hose for adequate water flow. Remove any blockage from the drainpipe or utility sink. Use the U-shaped drain hose form on the drain hose, and secure the drain hose. See the Installation Instructions for details; find them by entering your model number in the Manual and Literature search below.
Is the end of the drain hose more than 96" (244 cm) above the floor?
The drainpipe (standpipe) height requirements are: 96" (244 cm) maximum and 30" (76.2 cm) minimum. Your washer will not be able to adequately pump the water out of the washer if the drainpipe (standpipe) exceeds 96" (244 cm). In this case, the water may flow back into the washer. See the Installation Instructions for details; find them by entering your model number in the Manual and Literature search below.
Is your outlet voltage low?
Check electrical source or call an electrician.
