Cheap CD/DVD/Blu-ray players are all the same. They come with ear phone ports for most all types of head sets and any type work OK. The best bet is to go to an electronics store (BestBuy) and try some before to buy any.

Testimonial: "I bought a Colby, ( I never heard of that brand) but it was New in the package and had fairly big size earphones rather han earbuds. I'm stuck in the 1980's ..& my deceased husband made me 15 CD's of my favorite songs..I'm sure what I bought will be fine. I Thank you all for your help. Happy Happy New Year..May 2015 Rock! Thanks Again.."

Personally I would have advised you to purchase an MP3 player and just rip the songs from the CD's and transfer them to the MP3 player. That way you can lockup the CD's so they never get damaged because it sounds like they are dear to you. As far as headphones, any that come packaged with a player are so-so. Better quality headphone companies would be someone like Sennheiser, expensive but worth every penny.

Does sony walkman Nwza17 provide great sound using excellent earphones (as opposed to headphones)?

If the player really can play flac and has a good DA converter, I think it is one of the best portable music players around.
I do use Shure SE425 and Stax RS-001 MK2 earphones (both in ear) I think the Sony NWZA17 would be a good match for both phones.
I use very expensive sound cards in my computer and only play Flac or real CD. Be aware not the amount of bits or the sample rate is important. The source used to make the digital recording decides how the result, coming out of you speakers (or earphones) can be.
My earphones can keep up with my electrostatic loudspeakers, so worth trying. If money is no issue the Shure SE535 would be great. Although more expensive than the Sony MWZA17. But once you have great earphones, they can be used for many years to come. The player will be replaced in at least 3 to 5 years

What types of DVD can be played on the durabrand DVD player like memorex. sony.-r, or +r

G'Day!

It depends on the model of player you have. For example, COBY has older models that won't play anything other than commercial DVDs. However, most new DVD players, and by new I mean ones that are no more than 12 months old, can play DVD +R and -R. To find this information, you need to consult the manual or contact the manufacturer about your specific model.

I hope I've provided you useful assistance and that this information allows you to make an informed decision as to how to proceed from here. Please be sure to vote on my response. I hope I've earned a good rating from you today.

Please let me know if I can be of further assistance.
