You might have formatted your HDD to NTFS. There are two types of format that can be done on Windows OS one is NTFS which can only be read/write on Windows OS and FAT32 which would allow you to work with both Mac and Windows OS. You may want to reformat your HDD on a Windows based PC as FAT32 before working with your Mac. If it is a USB HDD you may just simply go to My Computer then right click on the drive letter assigned to the HDD then select "format" option.

Why does my nexxtech usb 2 0 data link cable not connect between a WD MyCloud and a MacBook Air

This cable you have is only for transferring data from one computer to another. To transfer data to this drive you must do so over the network or by loading your content onto a USB drive then connecting the USB drive up to the USB port on the WD MyCloud and using the MyCloud app to copy the data from the USB drive to the internal storage of the MyCloud drive. See the link below for more information. WD My Cloud Direct USB Transfer and SSH Access

Cant delete or add new files to my NexStar.3, I have it connected to a MacBook Pro

If you can SEE the drive on your desktop but cannot modify it's contents there is a good chance it is formatted as NTFS which is a Microsoft Windows format. Mac's can only read/copy information from these drives and not write/delete/modify them. You have 2 choices, you can erase the drive and reformat it as Mac OS Extended (Journaled) (Mac/Linux only) or you can format it as MS-DOS (FAT32) which is truly cross platform but slower to read and write to from a Mac. To reformat the drive you use Apple's "Disk Utility" program in your utility folder.

Can i transfer information to a mac

If the external hard drive has been formatted on a PC in NTFS file format then the MAC cannot read data off this hard drive.
The FIX..
Connect the USB external hard drive to a Windows computer and copy your data off this hard drive to the computer.
Then format the external hard drive in FAT32 file format. (the MAC can read and write to data to and from a Windows PC)
Now copy the your data from the computer back onto the external hard drive.
Now you can connect the external hard drive to the MAC and download your data to the MAC.

Verbatim usb500 Question? My macbook can't read it anymore?

If the drive did not actually fall, there is a good chance you just damaged the USB port. The jolt could have detached it from the circuit board. The case holds a normal hard drive and can be removed and placed within another case or a dock.

External hard drives come in 2 sizes, 2.5" and 3.5". If you get the case be sure you get the right size. The dock accepts both sizes.

My Seagate FreeAgent Go250GB become write protected for Macbook, but works fine on windows laptop. How can I fix this issue?

It's probably formatted to the wrong filesystem; Macs prefer HFS+, Windows prefers NTFS, but they both can read and write FAT32. I'd recommend using the Mac's Disk Utility application to reformat the drive to be FAT 32 (but be careful, this will erase the external hard drive, so back up first!)

My MacBook Pro no longer reads this portable hard drive. I have tried to plug it into a different MacBook Pro and the hard drive mounted onto the this laptop. I tried to transfer the files to a different...

at this point it sounds as though the drive itself is corrupted It is very difficult to try to get the data off once this happens and so there are data recovery places which charge into the thousands to do this.

Can see pictures on camera and in file when connected to my macbook (running osx leopard), but cannot transfer 700 pictures from my camera to my macbook. i was in the process of transferring about 1200...

you just mite have no more room on your macbook. if you do then it also could be that the files are protected or cant be read by the system. try to open up the files on your memory stick and copy and past or drag and drop see if that dose any different effect.

External hard drive won't let me transfer files from my Macbook.

Has it only just stopped working or has it been unable to work from the beginning? Are the files you are trying to transfer to the Hard disk already in use? I would recommend reformatting the hard drive. Formatting will put the hard drive back to it's original state. It will wipe all the data though, so make sure you back it up first. If that doesn't work then I'm not sure. Macs are not usually prone to viruses.

External hard drive can not be read by the computer

The hard drive was originally formatted for a PC and I was using it with Mac products. I had to delete all the information on the hard drive so that I could reformat the external hard drive to work with my Macbook Pro.
