Why won't my Acer laptop play compact discs?

When I install a disc nothing happens. Then sometimes it will play after a few minutes. I sometimes get a window that says,"program not responding."

Most units are designed to "autoplay" audio CDs when they are inserted. When they fail to do so, it could be because the CD is dirty or scratched and was bot recognized, the media player that you are using to play the CD was not in a state that it could autoplay the CD, or there could be a problem with the Disk drive or PC itself. Whenever a CD fails to play upon insertion, go to the "My Computer" icon (win7 or below) and see if the CD/DVD drive shows a disk inserted. If so, clicking on the drive will often start the playback.

Creating recovery discs After setting up the computer for the first time, be sure to create a set of recovery discs of the full factory image. the recovery discs are used to start up (boot) the computer and recover the operating system and software to factory settings in case of system instability or failure.

SOURCE: My dvd rw drive doesn't work anymore!

I'm afraid the drive itself has gone bad. The "working properly" you get in the device manager is a misnomer...all it means is that the device can be seen by windows it doesn't actually indicate the functionality of the device. It is likely that the laser died in the middle of the movie and the only way to fix it is to replace the drive.

SOURCE: acer aspire 6935g wont play blu-ray discs, will

Hi,

You need to download K Lite Codec Pack (Its Free) and you can install it via....... or you can try googling it.

http://www.codecguide.com/download_kl.htm

It contains all the different audio and video codecs. Your computer might not play it because it doesnt have a blue ray codec by default

Please post your feedback and Vote if the problem resolved as per your satisfaction.

My RCA 8070 5 disc cd player will try changing disc as soon as I power on.

Most multi disc players initialise by checking each compartment for a disc, checking it will focus and then, like Windows OS, knows if you want a specific disc or whether it is empty.
I would say, that was normal.
