My Dometic has a very styrong smell of ammonia.

Strong Ammonia smell is dead give away for LEAK. Ammonia is the chief ingredient in the absorption type cooing system. Probably not economical to repair. For a second opinion, contact a Dometic Authorized Service Center.

Ammonia is what some manufactures use for the refrigerant. You may have a leak in the copper tubing. It may cost more than a new one to have repaired, unless it is under warranty. Sorry.

Ammonia smell means cooling unit is done. Just double check on dometic site in case of any recalls that may apply. (dometicusa.com)

Sorry to give you the bad news. The ammonia smell is the the refrigerant
leaking out. Dometic uses ammonia that is heated and then condensed to cool. It will all leak out and quit cooling.
The fridge is wrecked. There are shops that rebuild the units. Beings as ammonia is corrosive one must assume there may be other leaks ready to appear. There are RV salvage yards that sell good used units.

Ammonia is just what you a re smelling as the coolant is ammonia based Your cooling unit has leaked and is done for- Sorry I had to be the one to tell you

2 choices Replace the refer or Replace the coiling unit, I would suggest replacing the refer and having a new warranty

sounds like you have an old unit and it has a leak , the real old units where filled with ammonia as the gas
