Steps To Fix HP Printer is Displaying A 50.4 Error Message

1. First thing you have to do is to cancel all the pending printing jobs in the queue.
2. Now switch-off your printer and leave it for few seconds to cool it down.
3. After cooling down the printer completely, the fuser failure error appears on the display screen.

A 50.2 fuser error will on most cases require replacement of the fuser assembly. It is located on the right hand side of the printer. Same side as the manual feed tray. Open the door and look for two blue handles near the top of the opening.

> FUSER ERROR

The FUSER is the part of any dry-ink laser-printer. It heats up, and melts the dry-ink onto the paper.

So, an ERROR indicates that the fuser is NOT reaching its "working" temperature.

Replace the FUSER, or take the printer to a qualified technician for remediation.

Here is the instructions to reset the fuser maintenance count:

HP Color LaserJet 5500/5550 Maintenance Code Reset Instructions

1. Press the ? button until the display reads "CONFIGURE DEVICE" and press ?.
2. Press the ? button until the display reads "RESETS" and press ?.
3. Press the ? button until the display reads "RESET SUPPLIES" and press ?.
4. Press the ? button until the display reads "FUSER" and press ?

This should reset your printer and clear the error message.

This is what the HP Website has to say about it:
50.X FUSER ERROR Description A fuser error has occurred. Action

1. Turn the printer off.
2. Verify the fuser is properly installed and fully seated.
3. Turn on the printer.
4. If the message persists, contact HP Support.

BUT! you can try performing a cold reset, and maybe this would help:
500, 3550, 3700, 4600, 4650, 5500, 5550, 8500, 8550, 9500) use the instructions below. 1. Turn the printer on.
2. When the memory starts counting on the control panel, press and hold the green SELECT button. Continue to hold green SELECT button until all three Control Panel LED's are illuminated and on solid.
3. Release the green SELECT button.
4. The control panel will display SELECT LANGUAGE.
5. Press the DOWN ARROW button until control panel displays COLD RESET.
6. Press green SELECT button. The printer will perform a cold reset and then continue its power-on sequence.

Try reaseating the fuser asm in the back the printer. There is two blue unlock levers in the back that will unlock the fuser asm.
Turn the printer off
Take the fuser out and reseat the fuser asm, lock it back in place using the blue levers.
Turn the printer back on.

If the error still comes on then you may have an issue with the DC Controller board.

When the message 14.6 appears on the control panel display, change the coating pad and cleaning roller if an old-style fuser (C3111A) is installed. If a new-style fuser (C3969A) is installed, use the new coating kit (C3964A) instead.

Check fuser for broken tabs that would engage sensors.
clean 3 sensors behind fuser with a blowerbrush or makeup brush.

make sure you did not break output full bin arm on back of fuser{happens a lot}.
