Question about Insignia Kix MP3 Player

1 Answer

Insignia 1GB Kix mp3 player works in Mac OS 9, but not OS X Tiger

My Insignia 1GB Kix mp3 player works great with my older Mac OS 9.2.2, but my newer Mac with OS 10.4.11 won't recognize it. Asks if I want to initialize the mp3 player.....of course, I don't! It's not a problem as long as I have that Mac running OS 9. But would be convenient to use the Insignia mp3 player with my newer MacBook. I like the Insignia, it's small and handy. And I don't have to use iTunes, I can just drag mp3's over to it. Any ideas? Thanks....

    Dear iCow,

Thanks for responding, and for the possible solutions. I tried the Insignia mp3 player previously on two other Macs, running OS 10.1.5 (older Macs that I can switch between OS 9 & X). None of the USB ports "recognized" the Insignia in OS X. Only in OS 9. And I don't have Parallels. Well, as long as I have my great Mac G4 running OS 9, I'm good! Love putting old sci-fi radio shows on it. I use my iPod Touch for videos, so I'm covered entertainment-wise. Thanks again.

Re-download the software, reformat the player, OR get the latest firmware upgrade - any one or combination of these methods should work. check Insignia website for more details.

PLAY ALL vs SHUFFLE

This is sounding like corrupted firmware. I just checked the Insignia website for a firmware update to fix your issue, but there are no firmware releases as of yet. I believe there is a 1 year warranty on these units so take it back to Best Buy for a new one.

Try using an unbent paperclip and press into the reset hole for a count of 10 seconds. This should undo any software "glitches".

If this doesn't work, there is a hardware problem that would require soldering for a weak/broken joint, or the amplifier chip is failing.

Good luck!
