Idylis 0526051 dehumidifier - ice build-up. After 7 months of use this started to make a laboured noise that was audible the floor above. I switched the unit off and noticed what appeared to be a "check filter" light. On removing the intake cover I found that there was about 75% ice cover. The temperature in the basement had not fallen below 65F. Any ideas on problem/solution most welcome!

Dust and dirt that causes loss of airflow through the coils is the most likely cause. The only other reason would be a low refrigerant charge to the compressor.

This will need to be serviced. LG has a 5 year warranty on these models. They usually will tell you of a service center nearby which will service it free of charge since it is under warranty. If you do not live near a service center they may ship you a replacement and you send your old dehumidifier back to them. Make sure you have your reciept when you contact them so they can verify it is 2 years old.

SOURCE: Ice on dehumidifier

A dehumidifier works by cooling the metal pipes on the back of the unit to create condensation (water vapor in the air). This then drips into the collector bucket. If the unit runs too long the cooling tubes can get too cold and freeze the condesing water vapor. Unplug the dehumidifier and let the ice melt, when u turn it back on, turn it down, it may be up too high. If you find this solution helpful please rate it.

I have a Hampton Bay HB50 with the same problem. I replaced the defrost control switch that connects to the compressor inlet line. The part # is 112900550001 and it was about $50.00

I have an Idylis dehumidifer with pump model 0526051 does it need a hose in the water tank to pick up the water in the tank?

Normally dehumidifiers collect the water that they have pulled from the air in the tank. Therfore no hose is required. You just have to empty the tank when full. Most models have a float switch which shuts off the machine when the tank is full. Hoses to get rid of water are normally only fitted on industrial machines.

Why is my dehumidifier icing up.

The room temperature is probably too cold, or there's poor airflow
Here's some info that should help you figure out what's causing the problem:

If the evaporator coil is frosting completely and evenly, the most common cause is that the room temperature is too cold. Most dehumidifiers are not meant to be used when the room temperature drops much below 70°F and certainly not below 65°F (depending on humidity). There are however some models called "basement" dehumidifiers which are.

Another possible cause on standard models is poor air flow through the unit. If the fan motor is not turning fast enough (or at all) or the evaporator, condenser or filter (if used) being plugged can also cause this symptom .

Ice build-up on Danby Dehumidifier DDR583R

Make sure you have enough air moving over the coils. There is an air filter on some models which may be obstructed. Insufficient air flow will cause your problem.

Dehumidifier problem

First, make sure the rectangular filter on the back side is clean so air can flow over the coils freely. Try to place the dehumidifier on a table or something to get it off the floor. (floor level is cooler than head level) If you still have icing issues, replace sensor. (part # WK23X10011 )
