Most of these externals have no drivers. They are set up to plug & play. If you no longer have the instruction manual, you will need to go on the Seagate Mfg site.
The biggest misconception about the externals is that you have to first format them which is outlined in the instruction manual. The formatting takes a few minutes. Once it is completed the drive will be linked to the computer and you will see it in the formatting window and also in My Computer.
When you format the drive you will also be able to choose which letter the drive will be under. Make sure no other device is assigned the same letter.
If you assign the same letter to two different devices, you may have a conflict and your system will not recognize one of them.
Probably, the new operating system cannot recognize your Seagate external hard drive. You can connect the Seagate external hard drive to another computer to copy data to another device. If the problem still exists, you might need to perform data recovery. You can free download the data recovery software: http://www.icare-recovery.com/seagate-recovery/seagate-external-cannot-be-recognized.html
This is a hardware problem but since you can't access to the removable you have to order a new one making sure the warranty of your product is still valid

It sounds as though you have one of the following problems:
Dirty contacts that can be cleaned with CRC electronic component cleaner;
A faulty drive that may have been dropped at some point in time. Your drive may have a three-year warranty and Seagate will replace it. Just go online and provide the serial number; and.
You may have to reinstall the drivers. The Seagate website can provide this if needed.
I'm not sure what Seagate Disk Utility is, do you mean SeaTools? That can be downloaded from the seagate website (also includes installation download). As for the disk Utility, what are you trying to do with it, or what do you need it for? If you give me some details I can suggest a program which might solve your problem. Also be sure to include your operating system name and version (IE Windows 3.1). Thanks!
Try the drive on another computer. If it is recognized there, you might be looking at a larger issue on your Mac. If it doesn't, the GoFlex's drive or boards may have failed.
It's hard to diagnose your problem without more information but from what I can gather you should visit this site: http://seagate.custkb.com/seagate/crm/selfservice/search.jsp?DocId=202271. It has steps for troubleshooting your drive and can help if fix it if you can. If you cannot fix it yourself, it also has instructions on how to send it back to Seagate for replacement. If it is in warranty you will only have to pay to ship it there.
It would cost as much to fix it, as it would be to replace it (if not more).
The hard drives in theose units are the same as any other 3 1/2" HDD in a computer.
They are sealed units.
Plus dropping it could have possibly damaged the disks in the drive, or the read/write heads.
