Put recovery disk in the CD drive. On reboot, hold down F12 key. You should get a choice of drives to boot from. Make sure the first two are in the correct order:

1. CD-ROM (optical drive)
2. HDD (hard drive)

then press F10 to save and exit.

Now the laptop should boot correctly from the recovery disk.

SOURCE: i could not get my sylvania netbook to connect to

I do not know why your icons disappeared by running the Download, but your programs are still in the on board ROM memory and what you are missing are your desk top icons. I have tried to duplicate your download problem but so far have not been able. I know that using a SD card will not download a usuable file so I used a thumb drive.

Any way please read the following solution that I wrote to another poster.

If you have deleted the icons for those programs on your desk top, then they may be in your Recycle trash bin. double click on Recycle Bin look for the icon for recorder, right click on recorder and select restore. You really cannot delete the programs from your machine as they are retained in a ROM chip , hard coded into the chip and are loaded each time you cut your machine on. The only thing you can do is delete the icons on the desktop, which are sent to the recycle bin.
To retore the machine to factory settings, there is a small hole just about an inch down from the data plate on the back. Using a pencil point or a straightened paper clip, insert the bject into the hole and hold for about 5 seconds. Your deleted icons are not replaced.
A second method to restore your icon is to click on my computer right click on the recorder, select copy, dismiss my computer, find a blank spot on your desktop and right click on that spot, select paste, and a dos type icon appears as your recorder button. When you cut the machine of and back on the Dos type icon is replaced with a CE type icon
To restore all icons:
You can: If you can click on start, click on run, type desk top into the open space and ok it. your icons should be shown. you will have to copy and paste each one back to your desk top, or select edit and then select select all, then click on file, select send to, and select desk top as short cut. SOURCE: Acer Aspire One Netbook picked up virus, internet

You will need to boot from a windows CD / DVD if you dont have one borrow one do a full format and reinstall. When you do get it all back to new do yourself a favour and put an anti-virus program on it there is planty of free ones out there which work great. AVG or Avast are a few good ones.......good luck with it and please vote

How can I return to the original system software that was in my Sylvania Netbook? Thank you. Jerry Kleker

Hi and welcome to Fixya!

To return to the original settings of the netbook, just follow this step;

When you turn the machine on, as soon as the very first screen appears press F11. It should take you straight to factory restore settings.

Restoring the machine back to factory settings will erase all changes (including personal files) on the machine so its better that you backup your files all the time.

Hope this helps!

ASUS Eee PC 1005HA-PU1X-BK Netbook how do fix black screen issue? It has an upper left corner blinking dash_

Hello.

Either you have an operating system problem or memory issue.

First, boot your system to Safe Mode (press F8 repeatedly when powering on). Go to System Restore and choose a date when your system worked OK. Note: with System Restore, all your updates will roll back to that date. Follow the process.

If still a problem, disconnect all cables. Be certain to dispel static electricity by touching metal. Remove the battery and memory cover. Try reseating (removing and reinserting) your memory (try one module at a time to test).

If still a problem, the last choices are Factory Restore and reinstall. Accessing Factory Restore (restores to the factory settings and will wipe out anything that you have installed or saved on your PC), is dependent on your hardware manufacturer. Boot your system and press F10, F11, Alt+F10, or Ctrl+F11 to access Factory Restore. Follow the prompts.

If still not resolved, you'll probably need to reinstall your operating system.

Hope this helps.

Tough infection keeps returning

Hello.

If the malware is reinfecting your system, you really only have 3 choices: System Restore, Factory Restore or reinstall.

For System Restore, boot your system to Safe Mode (press F8 repeatedly). Go to System Restore and choose a date when your system worked OK. Note: with System Restore, everything, including your documents and other files you saved on the hard drive, will roll back to that date.
