Sounds like the Hard drive doesnt have a operating system installed (seller may have wiped or replaced the harddrive), or the hard drive is damaged or missing(removed), - you would need a install dvd for windows or a bootable or installer dvd for linux . and replace the harddrive if it is damaged or missing
the Bootable disk its talking about
is its next attempt at starting a operating system from a cd,dvd or usb source after trying for a harddrive startup- but failing to find an operating system
SOURCE: Can't boot my Acer Aspire One
"Booting" is the process of starting up the computer's operating system (Windows). Settings in the mainboard memory (the BIOS) give the order in which devices are searched for the operating system. The usual order is hard drive first, then the CD drive, and finally over a network.
That clear-as-mud message means the mainboard tried to boot over a network connection and it didn't work. It's telling you to check your network cable or to put in a CD it can boot from.
There are two reasons this is happening. Either the system's BIOS settings have "network" as the first boot device, or (more likely) the operating system wasn't found on the hard drive and the BIOS went looking for a network connection. If the computer used to boot normally and you didn't change the BIOS settings, then something has happened to the hard drive to make it unbootable.
You can check the BIOS settings by pressing the "DELETE" key when you
turn the computer on and the Acer logo screen appears. This starts the BIOS setup mode. If the boot order is correct with network boot as the last choice, there is a hardware cause. You might have picked up a virus or worm which has corrupted the disk. The hard drive or the mainboard may have gone bad.
If you have a recovery CD or DVD set, you can try restoring your system. You say it's brand-new, so you might try taking the computer back to the retailer to see if their technical support people can help. Or you can contact Acer to set up service for the computer.
Hope this helps you understand what's happening and that you get the trouble straightened out quickly!

Hi,
Its possible the computer is trying to boot from another device, as the computer starts up hit the F12 key, this should bring up boot options, select HDD if it's in the list.
If not hit F2 as it starts and enter the BIOS, look for the boot option and set the HDD as the first boot device, hit F10, save the changes and exit.
The computer will restart and hopefully boot into the operating system
Please post back if you need anymore assistance.
Regards.

If you don't have documents, pictures,
etc on the hard drive that you need to backup, try running system
recovery by doing the following (not sure if this works on the version
with a solid state drive):
1. Turn on the computer
2. Press and hold Alt + F10
3. Click on Restore System to Factory Default
4. Ensure the netbook is plugged into AC power instead of running off the battery and click OK
* This will return your netbook to the condition it was in from the manufacturer.

This sounds awful, but a friend just had the same problem - no bootable device. He had dropped it, hitting keyboard first. Now he thumped it on the opposite side and IT WORKED! Must have been a loose connector
