My Amana Washer just finished a load. I put in clothes for a second load and when I hold down the start button to begin, the light goes green and water begins filling, but after 3-5 seconds, it just cuts off completely.

If the green cycle light is flashing on then off, this usually means the cycle is paused. The lid lock should unlock when in pause mode, if not you will need to press and hold the "Pause/Play" button to clear the cycle completely, if there is water in the unit, it will drain first, then unlock the lid and be on standby to start a new cycle. Pleazer Appliance...
Your washer lid lock button is locked and lid was not put down before it locked, which is why the light is flashing. Therefore, push the "START" button until you see the lid lock button is off (Approx 3 seconds). Once it is off, then you can put the lid down and push the start button again, which will lock the lid into place. The washer will NOT drain or wash or spin unless the lid itself is in the locked position. If you were able to get the lid down and locked and it still doesn't work, then you need a technician to replace a wiring harness. However, you mentioned that the lid lock button was flashing, therefore, it stands to reason that your lid is NOT locked down.
If the Add A Garmentlight is on, try this: the washer
door will unlock after the Pause/Cancel button is pressed once. Pressing
the Start button will restart the washer at the same point.
If the START / PAUSE button lights up red, the washing machine detects a malfunction. Now you should count how many times the START / PAUSE button lights up red and tell to us what kind of malfunction is being done.
Try to rapid reading of alarm codes when the appliance is in normal operating mode (e.g. during the execution of the washing
programme):
Press and hold down START/PAUSE and the nearest option button for at least two seconds: the LEDs initially switch off, and then display the flashing sequence indicating the last alarm.
LED indicator START / PAUSE with red light = indicates the first digit of the alarm code (family)
• LED indicator START / PAUSE with green light = indicates the second digit of the alarm code (internal number of the family)
I just had this problem! To get the clothes out, open door manually (follow answers on other threads here about opening toe panel and gently pulling down on door release). But as it turned out, I didn't need to remove the clothes, and now my washer is working again.
A local repairman gave me this advice over the phone. Make sure dial is switched to off. Unplug your machine, then plug it back in. Hold down the rinse and delay buttons with one hand. With the other hand, switch the dial from off to cold or warm or whatever cycle you want. All the buttons flash a few times, then just the start button flashes. The second time I tried this, my washer worked afterwards. I've done several loads today with no problem.
get a chair look behind the washer and unplug the electric cord and then wait a few seconds and plug it back up then do a drain and spin to get the washer to finish gettting the water out so you can get the door open or just rewash the clothes. You may have to try this a few times. My wife has had the same problem and this is what I do to get the washer going again.
Suggestion:
1 Press and hold down 'spin' & 'dry' buttons to unlock controls.
2 Have u overloaded the machine with clothes? Reduce load.
3 Try 'spin' only after putting the clothes. Then put off machine & continue with main cycle.
Three suggestions here........
What is the clothes capacity of the machine; try to limit within capacity. Try the "spin only" function aft putting the clothes. Then put the machine off & continue with the main cycle.
