Warm air only comes on for a bit, in order for it to stay on I have to rev engine while driving(added new coolant - didn't help). Not sure if its a sensor needs replaced or a new thermostat.
Either you are low on coolant and there is air in your heater core, or the thermostat isn't working properly, or your water pump is going out.
You have a coolant flow restriction or low coolant level. Check your heater hoses at the firewall. Coolant flows into the heater core through one hose and returns to the engine through the other. See if one is warm and one is cold. Does the engine get up to normal operating temp? Make sure coolant is full. The fluid level in the coolant reservoir should be kept at the full mark. With the engine cooled down, such as after sitting overnight, remove the radiator cap and make sure fluid is all the way to the top.

Most of the time it's because the cooling system is not completly full just a quart low will make it do this and if it's low theres a leak somewhere so it needs to be found and fixed. as simple as the hse from the raditor cap to the resivoir or the cap being bad or just dirtly. If anything appears dirtly not clear fluild green or red but clear then you need to flush the system. and then make sure its filled completly and recheck after youve drove it as its diffacult to get all and air out and your problem will be corrected.

could be the thermostat if it was just stating to go bad,could also be a vacume problem not letting the door for the ac/heat close all the way for a few min.and if its really cold out like below 35,then its going to take longer to warm up,my jeep takes like around 20 min at idle to warm up.yours could be a case of over cooling in cold weather too ie(electric fans on before it warms up)that would be the thermostatic sensor.
