I have an Elna Carina SU model no. 65. The spool pins suddenly stopped rotating when I was refilling the spool, although I could hear a motor running quietly when I pressed the foot control.

I'm just wondering if the machine has been checked, cleaned and oiled by a technician recently. These old mechanical machines usually need regular oiling to keep going. Not sure if that is the problem, but sometimes mechanical machines have parts that lock up over time.

How to change my spool pin

Some spool pins pull out, others have skrew threads on the bottom, yet others need to have the spool casing removed. Depends on your sewing machine.

Search the internet for:

Make + Model + the word "spool pin"

or contact manufacturer support.

I don't see my model of sewing machine in the list of machines, it's Model 412N, for which I need a spool pin. Do you have one?

Your model number suggests that your machine is a Shark Euro Pro. If this is correct, you can contact customer service for Euro Pro products at this web address: http://www.sharkclean.com/support/
There is also a phone number in the instructions and a Live Chat feature during the week. This customer service contact may need to transfer you to a specific department for your needed part.

If you are not successful in getting the part direct from Euro Pro, you can also check with SewingPartsOnline.com and most local sewing machine stores. There are often generic parts that fit many different models and brands.

I have a singer featherweight 11 117 model and the spool pin snapped. Where can I get a replacement?

First of all, it's likely at this point that you think your machine is unusable without it, but you're wrong. I have four Singer high-end sewing and embroidery machines, and it has been years since I used their spool pins.

Simply put a coffee cup or--my favorite--a lidless pint Mason Jar at the back of your sewing machine towards the right (away from the fabric side), bend the thread (don't wind the thread) around the remains of the spool pin to use it as a thread guide, and then thread the way you usually do, and you are in business!

Now, to address the replacement issue, there are several places where you can order a new one. Do a search on eBay for "Singer Featherweight Spool Pin" and a number of listings will come up. Don't put in your model number in the search box. If you see that a dealer is featuring one for a Featherweight, but not for your model, don't hesitate to use the "Ask a Question" option in a listing; these are generally quite knowledgeable dealers who can order one for you. Also Jenny's Sewing Studio and Sewing Parts Online either have them in stock or can order them for you. It appears that they are quite inexpensive too!

Lost Spool pin and cap for QuikStitch SP-402

Welcome to FixYa. If you have a spool stand, that might work as long as you can thread the machine properly (give it a try!). When the thread is placed on the machine's spool pin, the spool cap keeps the thread in place and helps the thread unwind evenly - so if you are using a spool pin, you really do need a spool cap.

If the spool stand works, you are good to go. If you need to order replacement parts, I've provided a link the manufacturer's website. From there, you can contact customer support and find out if parts are available. If you can't order replacement parts, ask customer service if the machine is compatible with another brand. Another option would be to buy a spool pin and cap at a sewing machine dealer. Take the machine with you and and make sure the parts fit before you buy them.

Here's the link to the site I mentioned:
