Printing to a Canon MX310 through a print server

I just bought a Canon MX310 and it works fine if connected directly to the PC USB port.
When I connect it to a DLink DP-301U print server, I cannot print from the PC to the printer. The print job is sent to the print server, but it seams that the MX310 does not recognize what the print server is sending to it.
I used to have an HP All-In-On printer connected to this same print server via the USB interface, and it worked fine for more than 3 years.

I got my dp-301u to work fine with my hp1020 on 2 different workstations with the following steps.

1. install printer locally via usb and test.
2. create a second printer as per the dlink manual creating a port. don't worry about the name as we will delete it.
3. once created go into the properties of the 2nd printer and change the port to something local - anything will do to free up the port.
4. go into the properties of the printer that was created in step 1. and change the port to that of the print server.
5. test print. should work fine.

cheers!!

WHY DOT MATRIX PRINTER NOT PRINTING DOS BASE PRINTS

It can't.
DOS printing need LPTx parallel port because DOS don't understand/support USB.

YOU can share the printer with windows printer driver, then
go to CMD prompt
Type
Net use lpt1 \\<computername>\<printersharename>
Then print DOS job to LPT1

Usb light link

HP LaserJet 1022 is a "host-based" printer so it must be connected to a PC. Load the driver on PC first and connect the USB cable when software tells you to do so.

Will not work on a Linksys print server.

LaserJet 1022N & LaserJet 1022NW have "special" HP print servers that can support HP host based printers.

I have a canon ir2016 photocopier which can print documents directly from a computer if connected to it! I have connected it to my windows xp2 pc through a usb port but it is not detected at all. how do I...

As far as I know, Canon IR2016 is stand-alone copier. Printing is optional using Network connectivity. The USB port found at the back is for upgrading purposes only.

Can we use MF6550 for wireless network?

If you use a wireless USB print server like this . Keep in mind that you may not get all functions such as scanning to work but it will allow for printing for sure. If the scanning works consider it a bonus.

Using D-link dp-300 Printer Canon ImargeClass MF4350d (Multifunction printer) Problem. I can not use scanner fanction. (no problem for printer) Without printer server, I able to use the scanner.

Hi,

The problem you are having is pretty standard, the IP based printing works for most printers but the scanner require direct(or well faked, direct) connectivity with a USB port which most routers do not provide.

Several companies including Startech and Io Gear make Virtual USB devices which would resolve the issue.

How they work differs as instead of creating an IP printer, the usb device installs on an ip and then a driver you install on your PC(s) connect to the unit over the router and sets up a virtual USB port on your machine so you can re-install the printer as a local printer attached to what it thinks is a local USB port.

Doing this will allow you all functionality the printer offers but will slow down printing and scanning a bit

Hope this Helps,

Canon mx310 feeds paper w/out printing

Normal 0 Could have a corrupt driver.
Disconnect the printer or at least be sure it is turned off. I'd do both and when the CD software program asks you to connect the printer to the USB port, do so and it should again work properly.
Hope this helps. Bud

I cannot print using DP-G310 print server connected via switch to the HP Laser Jet P1005 printer. All the configurations are ok ,but i still wonder what is happenning. When i connect the printer direct to...

Sorry but P1005 does not come with its own processor to work of a Print Server, it needs PCs processor to process the printed file and send it in a specified format to it. This makes it cheaper for HP to make printers and sell at a margin because their is no processor in them. You have to get a printer which has a processor to work with a Print Server for instance look for Hp 1300 or HP 1100 series

Canon pixma MX310 scanner not working

I read somewhere that the printer/scanner must be plugged directly into the computer in order to scan.  I tried it, and it works.  Printing can be done wirelessly, but apparently not scanning!

Can't print to mac wirelessly (could do it a few days ago)

I had the same problem until recently. You have to install the drivers FROM THE CD that came with the printer, instead of selecting the drivers from the default list. Then, when selecting which printer driver to use (you'll have two options) choose Canon IJ and NOT Canon MX310 series. This is a problem with their MX310 driver, which is solved using a default/generic Canon InkJet (hence, the IJ) driver. Hope this helps!
P.S. This only works on Mac OS X. I have yet to figure out how to print wirelessly through Vista. Will keep you posted.
