If the batteries have been alowed to run down too far.when you plug the charger in the electronics in the charger will look for the 24 volts +/- 2 volt at the charging socket.if it dosent find this it will not supply a charging current to the Batteries.2 possable options here ,if batteries have not been left too long they may bump start, remove both batteries.either charge each battery individually with an old analogue 12volt 5 amp car battery for 1 hour each , then refit and try mobility charger or if a 12v smart charger avail and wont charge temp jump start charging with a good 12volt battery conected in parallel with the faulty one +to+.._to_ if both these methods fail the batteries have been damaged beyond repair and both will need replacing. keep new batts charged evrey time you use it and charge for min 10 hours. to avoid dammage and failure to replacement batteries

It might be easier to carry a spare battery. I am not familiar with your unit. I do not understand how a jump start would work without an external power source.

Can a Duralast jump starter kit start a car while plugged into an outlet?

The charger to a Jumpstart charges at a low rate (300mA to 500mA) and will not push enough current to start a car. Best to have Jumpstarts recharged every 6 months to be ready for emergency.

We have just put dads Sterling Classic back together after months standing idle. When we switch the battery charger on it says check but what do we need to check.

Hi. The main thing to check for is that the charger is actually connected to the batteries. If the charger has a 3-pin plug that plugs into the scooter, check that there is no broken wires in the plug. Also check the socket in the scooter with a multi-meter, you should be able to read the battery voltage from the meter.
Most chargers sense the voltage in the batteries, and base the charge rate on this voltage. If the charger is not connected to the batteries when it is turned on, it will drop out and go into a fault mode.
Good luck. Neil.

My Schwinn S-180 scooter won't charge

Check your charger with a meter and see if it is putting out the correct voltage for your scooter battery. If it is, you probably need a battery, probably so anyway after 2 years. Good luck!

Did you remove the battery from the scooter before charging? The scooter circuitry may be giving the charger false readings.

Can you try to jump start the scooter using a car and some jumper leads? If it starts that way, then your battery is dead.

Sterling sapphire 2 4wheel scooter

Larry,

Many scooters use a special charger that will not overcharge the batteries. Your best bet is to run a long extension cord to wherever you are safely storing you scooter and use the on-board charger. Be sure to charge your batteries often, since they last a lot longer if you do not run them down too far.
