It would appear that the toner cartridge you are using is faulty or not installed correctly.
The user guide can be found here:
Lexmark X203n and X204n Series
And in the section "Understanding printer messages" codes 30 and 31 refer to cartridge faults.
"30 Invalid refill, change toner cartridge
The printer has detected an invalid, refilled toner cartridge. Remove the toner cartridge, and then install a new one."

What causes print quality degrading to light gray with white lines?

Toner cartridge nearly empty is the normal cause.

Remove the toner cartridge. Make sure the developer drum and door flap are at the bottom. Hold it 45' one way and tap it 4 times. Hold it the other way up and do the same, then tap it as you move it to level. It is full of toner powder and you are loosening the remaining bit and making them settle to the bottom. If the print improves, the toner cartridge needs replacing. If it doesn't, you need service.

30.64 invalid rechange cartage

Check and see if you put the wrong toner cartridge in the printer first.
However...
Most modern business solution printer have chips in the cartridge that tell the the printer the cartridge information;
serial number, manufacturer, fill levels, etc.

If you bought a refill cartridge and its not a genuine product of the company who made the printer it can give all sorts of errors. Also from time to time you can get a genuine cartridge that's just bad. Most companies will warranty the cartridge.

X204n lexmark,900 firmware error to continue,

The 900 error usually indicates a software or communications problem. The first thing to check is the base printer.


Turn off the printer and disconnect every cable, except for the power cord.

Turn on the printer and see if the error returns.

If the error does not return, try to print a test page from the Test Menu.

If the test page prints correctly, the printer's hardware is most likely working correctly. The source of the problem is probably outside the base printer.

A 900 Firmware error means that something has corrupted the code on your printer.
