The reason that it's doing that is b/c at first its running only with the fan butwhen the compressor clicks on it trips the breaker if you have other items running off that circuit "unplug them" [even turned off items can still consume some power]. Then try to running only the ac unit see if it works a 12000btu takes a lot to run, if this doesn't work the ac may be to much for your circuit to handle and a smaller unit may be needed.

The compressor is probably going out on either a pressure related or heat related overload. Both are a result of low refrigerant. There may be a low pressure safety swich that protects the compressor. Otherwise it may be an internal thermal overload that is tripping. It resets itself and comes back on. The thermal overload heats up and shuts off the compressor to protect it from too much heat which is gernerated by not enough refrigerant in the system to keep the compressor cool. It may be cheaper to replace the unit than have someone try and fix it. It is pretty time consuming and you cannot try it yourself unless you have an EPA Certificate to buy the refrigerant. Check with your local appliance repair man to see if he will tackle it.

It's 'possible' but not likely that you need additional freon.
What is more likely is the 'filter' (for inside coil) is dirty and possibly the coil itself - and/or - the outside coil is dirty.
I would check out the filter - if dirty - I would change it and would also inspect the inside coil. If it's also dirty I would clean it the best I could (with a brush of some sort).
I would also check the outside coil and clean it if need be.
Hope this helps.
SOURCE: I have an Intertherm split
Hi, the schematic would be in the indoor unit, but I am assuming its gone since you are looking for the ladder schematic for the heat strips and fan control. You might try this number for a schematic, 1-888-441-6942, Route A/C and they may be able to help you on this diagram. The number you are showing does not look like any model number at all. For both the indoor and outdoor units on the Intertherm, would look something like this...., P3RA-024k for the model number, and the serial number would be right below it. Both should be very easy for you to locate. It is very hard to find schematics for units once they are gone, as some tech's like to take them off units to go home and try and study them!!, unreal! Makes it hard to troubleshoot when you need it. Try to find numbers like I have noted, and call this number as they will answer questions you may have concerning yours. I hope the best for you and would like for you to rate me, as I know you will be kind. Please keep me posted on this as maybe I can help you solve this fan relay problem you have?
Sincerely,

If you lift the filter cover, on the right you will see a wiring diagram. Above the diagram and to the left , you will see a small hole that is about a fourth of an inch in diameter with a rod in the middle. Touch the rod and the unit will come on AUTO. Touch it again and the fan will reduce speed. One more time and it will go off.
