I just moved into an apartment with a Gaggenau stove and having a problem getting the flame from the stove to stay on after pressing in the knob. I'll press in the knob, it'll light fine (with the igniter clicking) and then when I let go of the knob, the flame goes out. I have to really press it in and hold it for it to stick and the fire to hold. Also, we have a high BTU unit and the knob doesn't really seem to control the power of the fire. Any ideas what kind of problems these are and an estimate on fixing it?

Hi
Even though you do not mention the brand and model of your Gas top, I am pretty sure that, that specific switch is bad.
With more info about the type and model I might be able to help you more.

SOURCE: Jen-Air Gas range Igniter keeps clicking but not starting fire
01/26/09 My wife decided to give our Jenn-Air a good cleaning. With lot's of soapy warm water she pulled the knobs off and washed under each of them not realizing excess water was now running down the inside of each control knob shaft. The igniter immediately began clicking away as it was being shorted by the conductance of the water now inside of the switch. I had to remove the cover (2-screws) to access the control switches but that is all I needed to do do in order to have clear access. Using her hair dryer it took about 5 minutes of warm air blowing down each of the shafts until the water evaporated and the clicking stopped. Wahla. The old Jenn-Air is back to working order again.
Lift the top of the Stove up.
Look for a Small line that goes to the Affected Burner.
At the end of that Line you will see a small Flathead Screw.
Turning That screw Clockwise Adjusts your Pilot Light for that Burner.
Be careful not to Adjust to High, it would just be a Waist of gas.
hope that helped.
