EPA regulations: Freon 22 units are no longer available, Units that are compatible are available They come pre charged with nitrogen It must be dumped. If there is freon in the old system it should be pumped down into the condenser unit before the inside unit is removed, Close the high side king valve and run the unit until the low pressure reads near O Close the low pressure king valve. and turn unit off. 410A freon units are readily available. Most if not all 2 ton air handlers will work with any outside 2 ton unit though some building codes will not allow a mix. Their reason: if something fails who is to blame:
that is a model number for the outside condensing unit. to find the motor size for the inside unit, you will need the model off of the inside unit, gas furnace or electric air handler.
Is the outside unit on but the fan isn't running? If so, it could be a capacitor issue. Go to the back of your outside unit and look inside the access panel with the electrical warning sticker on it, if the capacitor is bowed up at the top, it needs to be replaced. If it turns out to be the capacitor, follow this link for a new capacitor replacement kit, it will save you hundreds of more dollars than calling an HVAC repair company to charge you an arm and a leg. The kit also comes with the proper tools and parts needed as well as detailed instructions on how to replace the part yourself. http://hvacrepairkits.com/index.php/content/article/68 I hope this helps!
Doc, the outside compressor could be low on refrigerant gas or the condenser switch in the outside unit is faulty. One of the things that is most overlooked is a faulty wall thermostat. For now, it's a process of elimination to troubleshoot and solve the problem.
it would have nothing to do with the gas. how old is it? it could be a few different things. the compressor is gone. the outside board is gone . or the wires from the board to compressor.. how did u try to force it on?
The thermostat has a timer on the on- cycle (5 min delay for the outside unit and blower inside) if you are not gonna call a service guy then ( for $25) you can go to homedepot (whatever you got out there) and buy a honeywell vertical digital heat and ac t'stat.
this one doesnt require you to set it up for a particular application. this may solve your problem. but as for warm air out of the registers you need a service guy to check that
Initially, it doesn't sound like your thermostat is working.
If it has a setting to allow the blower (air mover) to be operated alone or continuously, try that.
Generally, if the inside unit (air mover) won't power up, the outside unit will not turn on for more than a couple of minutes because if the inside unit isn't working, pressure builds up in the lines going to the outside unit and an over-pressure sensor will shut it down again.
inside unit has fan control relay , either on control board or can be separate ,except for the 24 volt transformer and the t-stat the units operate separately concentrate totally on the inside unit this is where the problem lies
