Tv was presented to with saying their was half a picture on top or streaks, but when I plugged it in it has no picture, I plugged a coax cable from a vcr, has sound no pic, I plugged in yellow video cable no pic. please advise. Warmest Regards Andy
Check and replace damaged component/s at its horizontal scan output section circuit. Check the LOT (Line Output Transformer) too for damage. Replace the horizontal scan output transistor. Check the input voltage to LOT. If the voltage is absent check the feeder resistor; if any. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Surf the site with patience. Pull up older posts.

If the new player you hooked up is causing the spit screen then you have to go into the set up menu in the DVD player and take it out of prograssive scan.. Its in the wrong fornmat for your TV set. good Luck PS please dont forget to rate this.

sarge, it sounds like the vertical output IC went bad on you. If it was a bad connection or a bad capacitor, your picture would have been a straght line across the screen. They call the output section of the IC a push-pull type of amp, so the top half of the sweep IC went out. If you have had some soldering experience, and or experience with solid state repair, locating the bad IC and replacing it is no big deal. If you havent, stay safe and call in a pro to assist you in this repair, as there is alot of high voltage inside this puppy that is still present even if the set is unplugged. It should not cost an arm or a leg to repair this set. An honest repair on a set like this if you take it in should not exced 125 to 150 bucks. Good Luck PS Please dont forget to rate this thread.

You likely have bad solder connections around the tuner area. This model has a history of problems in that area or the tuner itself.

THanks for the answer.. I have an update, I tried a factory reset by holding the up arrow on the remote then pressing and rreleasing the power button on the tv. the picture came back for about 15 seconds then the bottom half went black and the top half had lines through it for about 5 seconds then went completely black again.
Ok now I knudge the chassis on the side and i get the pic coming back, sometimesa 1/4 ways with streaks, sometimes 1/2 or all the way but briefly, I'm thingincold solder joint? or faulty or loose component? any idea where I should start my search now?
