With the tire removed you may be able to push down on the lower control arm with a bar, if there is slack or movement at the ball joint you need new ball joints. the greater the slack the greater the urgency for new ball joints.
If you want to take the easy route use the dorman-control-arm- 520-344. It cost about as twice as much as a ball joint by itself but you will not need any special tools to replace. If you just do the ball joint by itself you will need a ball joint tool to press the old one out and the new one in. Some parts store do offer free tool borrowing programs so its you call
all cars. (arm lower end?) if you see a nut there> bingo remove nut and some need generic puller to get it off . (cheap puller sold OTC everywhere) if not , look for side clip.
if you buy say new Trico's(etc) they have instructions in the box
Have to remove wheel, have someone push brakes on & undo nut to shaft in center of hub, undo lower ball joint on control arm & pry it out, move lower control arm out from shaft, then remove shaft from transmission, then do seal. Don't forget, going back in shaft should snap in.( little retainer ring on end.)
