Question about Zenith XBV713 DVD VCR Combo
Disc has been cleaned, disc has been changed and psrogram restarted after overnight delay
I'd like to help but need more information.
1. What do you mean by "will not advance"? Do you mean you put in a disc, it starts up (do you hear it spin?), the trademark is whirling, and then it stops and doesn't do anything else? Can you hear it stop spinning? Does the screen say anything else?
2. Does it do this with any other discs, or just one particular one? ("Disk has been changed" may mean this but I just wanted to verify.)

Have you tried any non-blockbuster discs with similar results?
Either the lens is dirty (don't go buy one of those cleaners -- they don't work as advertised), or the DVD drive in the unit is bad or rapidly headed that way.

SOURCE: "No Disc" error
try a few things first, the issue is that the disk decoder cannot get the information of the cd lan surface this is due to either a bad laser unit, or a very direct lens. cleaning is simple but if the disk cleaner didn't work you'll have to open the unit and wipe down the lens with alchohal esd safe, get at electronics store. sometimes their are stickt subtsances that get on cd discks and are transfered to the lens when it is reading cause the close proximity to the surface at high rpm's good luck.

Sounds like dirty laser pick up. Try a cd cleaner run through it to clean dust etc off. They can be purchased from any electronic sellers.

SOURCE: Zenith xbr716 will not read and disc message no
All you can do is clean the lens with a brand name Lens cleaner for DVD. If that doesn't work you might have a serious repair bill to think about.

SOURCE: Have a Zenith DVD player insert a disc keepgetting
Hi, Click
this link for more info. If you
can't do the job yourself, I would advice you to look for a professional to
troubleshoot the symptom. Also,
check if your unit is under warranty period, avail it because the manufacturer
will fix it for free. Don't attempt to open the cover(it will void the
warranty). Hope I
helped you.
If you have necessary tools and test instruments, know safety precaution in
basic troubleshooting try the steps below to solve your problem.
Assuming that the disc is good.
1.Clean the lens. -
Sometimes because of dust and any fine foreign objects the lens can't read any
disc. If you have DVD Lens cleaner, play it to the unit. If this is
not available you may manually clean the optical lens. Open the cover and
gently clean the eye of the lens by smooth, clean, soft cotton buds. Be careful
while doing this, just a gentle stroke only.
2.Check the ribbon - Check
the ribbon connected to the lens from the main board for scratch, damage. Once it has an
open line then of course the lens can't read the disc. Also try to erase the
contact by pencil eraser. If you've done the steps above and the symptoms still
there then the next step requires you a little knowledge in soldering technique
and reading the ohmmeter.
3.Check the motor - Check
the motor that spin the disc with an ohmmeter. You can test it using the
ohmmeter (x1) even it is connected on the lens assembly.Good motor - reading should be fairly high and it
will spin. Bad motor-
reading will drop to low resistance and will not spin.
Hint : Most of my
repaired unit the above parts are commonly caused of the problem.
If you confirmed that you have a defective motor then replace it with a new
one. Before replacing the new motor you have to check the clearance of the disc
holder with the old one. The clearance should be the same as the old because if
not the lens will not read the disc if it is too far or too close.
If the above steps didn't cure the problem, high chance that your optical lens
was faulty.
Have a nice day!
Thanks for using Fixya.

Check to see if there are any scratches on the disc. Scratches or marks on discs will render game discs unplayable or will freeze the game and will often show a message stating "Disc Read Error" or something to that effect. With some scratched discs, the data cannot be read and the game console may not even recognize the discs at all, giving you error messages etc. Best remedy for starters, is to try clean the discs and make sure there are no smudges or dirt marks left on the play-side of the discs. If there are any scratches on the discs, they will need repairing.
Most Game Discs, DVD's and CD's can be fixed quite easily back to "As Good As New Condition". Some home remedies or cheap repair kits may help with some light marks or very light scratches on some discs, but a professional disc repair service is usually required to repair any discs with anything more than very light scratches.

If you tried some home remedies and they have not worked, try sending the disc off for repair. Contact the site above for advice on repair and shipping.
Hope this Helps!!!
