I'd like to help but need more information.

1. What do you mean by "will not advance"? Do you mean you put in a disc, it starts up (do you hear it spin?), the trademark is whirling, and then it stops and doesn't do anything else? Can you hear it stop spinning? Does the screen say anything else?

2. Does it do this with any other discs, or just one particular one? ("Disk has been changed" may mean this but I just wanted to verify.)

Have you tried any non-blockbuster discs with similar results?

Either the lens is dirty (don't go buy one of those cleaners -- they don't work as advertised), or the DVD drive in the unit is bad or rapidly headed that way.

SOURCE: "No Disc" error

try a few things first, the issue is that the disk decoder cannot get the information of the cd lan surface this is due to either a bad laser unit, or a very direct lens. cleaning is simple but if the disk cleaner didn't work you'll have to open the unit and wipe down the lens with alchohal esd safe, get at electronics store. sometimes their are stickt subtsances that get on cd discks and are transfered to the lens when it is reading cause the close proximity to the surface at high rpm's good luck.

SOURCE: Zenith xbr716 will not read and disc message no

All you can do is clean the lens with a brand name Lens cleaner for DVD. If that doesn't work you might have a serious repair bill to think about.

SOURCE: Have a Zenith DVD player insert a disc keepgetting

Hi,
If you have necessary tools and test instruments, know safety precaution in basic troubleshooting try the steps below to solve your problem.
Assuming that the disc is good.
1.Clean the lens. - Sometimes because of dust and any fine foreign objects the lens can't read any disc. If you have DVD Lens cleaner, play it to the unit. If this is not available you may manually clean the optical lens. Open the cover and gently clean the eye of the lens by smooth, clean, soft cotton buds. Be careful while doing this, just a gentle stroke only.
2.Check the ribbon - Check the ribbon connected to the lens from the main board for scratch, damage. Once it has an open line then of course the lens can't read the disc. Also try to erase the contact by pencil eraser. If you've done the steps above and the symptoms still there then the next step requires you a little knowledge in soldering technique and reading the ohmmeter.
3.Check the motor - Check the motor that spin the disc with an ohmmeter. You can test it using the ohmmeter (x1) even it is connected on the lens assembly.Good motor - reading should be fairly high and it will spin. Bad motor- reading will drop to low resistance and will not spin.

Hint : Most of my repaired unit the above parts are commonly caused of the problem.
If you confirmed that you have a defective motor then replace it with a new one. Before replacing the new motor you have to check the clearance of the disc holder with the old one. The clearance should be the same as the old because if not the lens will not read the disc if it is too far or too close.
If the above steps didn't cure the problem, high chance that your optical lens was faulty.

If you can't do the job yourself, I would advice you to look for a professional to troubleshoot the symptom.

Also, check if your unit is under warranty period, avail it because the manufacturer will fix it for free. Don't attempt to open the cover(it will void the warranty).

Hope I helped you.
Have a nice day!
Thanks for using Fixya.

Check disc

The only practical way to check such a disc is by substitution of another disc which is believed to be OK. But first, verify your test disc is OK by playing the disc in another player known to operate properly. If the disc passes that test, insert the OK disc in your DVP615. If the test disc produces the same error message as your first disc, the player itself is more likely to be defective. However, there is still a small chance the read head is merely dirty or dusty, so cleaning is the next step.

Disc Error:

Take it back to the store if its new or if you bought a warranty and trade it for a new one. If not try calling an electronic store and ask them if they know whats wrongs with it. Be sure to read the instruction manuel for a support phone number and call there too.

The disc is unreadable but dosent say clean disc or anything

"Unable to read the disc" or "Disc could not be read" MessagesIf you are getting one of the above error messages:
  • This message can display if you eject a disc during game play. If this is when the message displayed, make sure that you return to the Wii Menu before changing discs if you wish to play a different game.
  • If your Wii console is laying flat, it may be positioned upside down. Ensure that is positioned right-side up: the game disc slot should be above all three buttons and the SD Card slot.
  • Ensure that you are properly loading a Game Disc. insertdisccorrect.gif
    • If your console is placed vertically, the disc label will face to the right.
    • If your console is placed horizontally, the disc label will face upwards

  • Check our list of specific game issues to see if there is a known issue with that particular title.
  • If you know you are inserting the Game Disc correctly, but are still have the same problem with only one game (or if you only have one game), try cleaning the Game Disc by following the disc cleaning procedures (click here).
If the above information did not resolve the issue or it is happening with most or all of your games, a repair is necessary. Please note: So that our technicians are able to duplicate the issue, please include at least one sample game disc that causes this message to appear when played. Click here to set up a repair.

When we insert game discs in our wii, it will let us play for about 2 minutes, then give us a message that reads, "disc cannot be read, please refer to wii ooperations manual." I ordered the wii...

Check to see if there are any scratches on the disc. Scratches or marks on discs will render game discs unplayable or will freeze the game and will often show a message stating "Disc Read Error" or something to that effect. With some scratched discs, the data cannot be read and the game console may not even recognize the discs at all, giving you error messages etc. Best remedy for starters, is to try clean the discs and make sure there are no smudges or dirt marks left on the play-side of the discs. If there are any scratches on the discs, they will need repairing.

Most Game Discs, DVD's and CD's can be fixed quite easily back to "As Good As New Condition". Some home remedies or cheap repair kits may help with some light marks or very light scratches on some discs, but a professional disc repair service is usually required to repair any discs with anything more than very light scratches.

Check the "More Info" & "FAQ" Sections for further details on game disc repairs and related matters.

If you tried some home remedies and they have not worked, try sending the disc off for repair. Contact the site above for advice on repair and shipping.

Call of duty 4 modern warfare disc plays in single player mode, but system stops and says disc unreadable clean disc with cloth then restart the system. i did that still doesn't work

I had a game that was scratched and didn't work so I found the softest fingernail buffer thing my sister had. Take it and make sure it feels like the face of a id card, not ruff at all , make sure to hold it against the disc so the middle of the nail file(no-edges) is the only thing touching, buff the disc vertically until scratches are less visible, clean of any dust and it should work. Or you can pay for a disk tool or service. Do not use this on blue-ray discs it will erase media.
