Diamond Shield Mitsubishi 55315

Our diamond shield is cracked. Do we need to replace, or is tv fine without it? TV is three years old, don't know if we could even purchase a new shield. Also, any guidance on removal of the shield?? Manual isn't very specific on this. Thanks.

I also have a cracked Diamond Shield (Xbox remote went through it) and sadly for us all, the part is no longer available. At this time I am looking into manufacturing one and will let all know how successful that is. I have more thana crack and it need to be totally replaced. To operate without runs the risk of damanging the screen and that is a $300 repair job. I will keep you posted.

Tip

What to do when you have a cracked LCD, LED or Plasma TV

Spending a ton of money on a new TV is the norm these days. Unfortunately televisions are not made like they used to be. Flat panel LCD, LED and Plasma TVs are very fragile. The picture area can be cracked by even light objects hitting the TV.

Once the picture is cracked there is no way to repair it. It needs to be replaced. TV manufacturers purchase LCD, LED and Plasma screens in large quanities and get a great price. When your local repair shop has to purchase a single replacement unit, you will often find it is as expensive if not more expensive then a new TV (if its even avaliable) when you factor in the labor costs. Usually you are better off replacing the TV with a brand new set the next time a good sale comes up then have it repaired.

You would think the TV's warranty or extended warranty you purchased would cover a cracked screen. Alas.. they don't. Every warranty I have ever read does not cover accidental damage. As soon as the repair person sees the screen is cracked, they will tell you the warranty does not cover it and you are out of luck.

While there isn't much hope for repairing your current TV, you can take some simple steps to protect your new TV from damage.

1. Mount the TV on the wall. Its a lot harder for little kids to hit the TV or throw something at the TV when it is mounted on the wall vs sitting on a stand.

2. Explain to the family how fragile the TV is. While this might seem obvious.. kids do know things until they are taught.

3. Wear the wrist strap while playing video games as recommended!

4. Pickup a tv screen protector from a company like TV Armor. They are designed to provide impact protection for the TV without affecting the picture.

Following these simple steps can keep you enjoying your new TV for many years to come even if you do have a budding baseball player at home.

Diamond Shield for Mitsubishi VS45605

Unless you have small children it's better to just remove the diamond shield and throw it away. Less glare on the screen that way. But if you must have a new one go to a local glass shop and have a piece of plexiglass cut to the dimensions of the old one. We do that all the time and it works fine. Usually runs around $60.00.

Need to replace passenger side view mirror 200 GMC Jimmy Diamond

On my '97, there was a triangular shaped piece of plastic on the inside trim that had to be removed. I think all three mounting screws were under that. It's been a few years, but I think that was how it was done.
I remember it was pretty easy though.

Hello!
Your tv has bad solder connections at the tuner and microprocessor or you have a bad eeprom IC...or both. The eeprom IC is to the tv what ram is to your computer...memory. The tuner's RF shield\ground connections and the microprocessor's RF shield connections must be soldered. If the solder job at the tuner/micro has already been done then replace the units eeprom IC and your set will work.
Sounds like not an easy fix ,huh? It's actually very easy if you have any experience soldering. I did about 5 a week for 8 years or so. Every RCA\GE tv made between 1992 and 1996 needed to have their tuners and micro's shielding\grounds re-soldered. There was a class action lawsuit brought against RCA for this.
If your unit made it this long without having this repair done it's amazing...the problem was cracks would appear in the solder ( cheap solder ).
If your unit has had this service done...most had to be carried out when the sets were only 2 to 4 years old... then your sattelite technician recreated the problem just by unscrewing\screwing in the input cable to your set. He broke loose the solder connections again.
If your unit has good solder on the tuner and micro then replacing the eeprom IC will get your unit exorcised!!! Good luck! Please rate my solution...Thank you!

Diamond shield

It seems these TV's are going bad right and left. I would look on Craig’s list for a cheap/free 55" Diamond TV. Not sure what you would do with the left over TV. I just picked up a 55" Diamond for free and hope to fix it. If I don’t get it to work, you can have the screen (California).
