How to Clean Auto Leather

Vehicle has 125K miles. Leather interior still in good shape, BUT dirty dirty. How do I cheaply clean/restore the leather. I've heard about products from the auto parts store(e.g. Meguiar's G7214 Gold Class Leather Cleaner and Conditioner), BUT I'm not sure. I've heard about using leather shoe cleaner. Not sure....BUT I don't won't to mess anything up. Next question, How do you repair leather? I have small hole on the rear side in the driver seat. The leather is the only thing that is ripped. Vehicle runs great! Exterior body is almost flawless. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I use Griot's Garage leather care products and have been very pleased with the results. Thy have a leather care spray that will clean light dirt, but very dirty leather may require an interior cleaner that is PH blanced so it does not dry the leather out. Then after the leather is clean, allow it to warm in the sun and apply leather care, leather 3 in 1 or leather rejuvenator, all excellent products, that will sink into the leather and keep it supple and prevent cracking. I would not use shoe cleaner as that leather is dyed differently and may be too harsh for fine leather as is used on vehicle seats. Also keep in mind that in most vehicles, only the leather "seating surfaces" are actually leather, the rest is matching vinyl so be sure to test anything you use on a non-visible spot first.

As for repairs, there are kits available to repair holes and rips. Many are simple and require a small patch behind the leather and the placing of a color matched "goo" on top of the patch and pressing of a grained paper over the goo to resemble the leather graining, so it looks similar when dried.

Best of luck.

Whats the best way to clean the leather interior? The cars been sitting for almost 2 years and needs help.

You can either use saddle soap and scrub with a sponge or you can buy one of the ultra concentrate cleaners on the market. I use something called Advanage from www.advanagedp.com and with that I put it on with a cloth and gentlely rub.

If the leather is dried out or cracked you should also buy a leather preservative to put on after you clean. So far, I haven't found one that is any better the the next so won't recommend one.

How to clean interior hard surfaces of mistubishi lancer?

Clean interior hard surfaces with a damp cloth and a mild all-purpose cleaner such as Simple Green, diluted about 10:1. If you have vinyl-covered seats, use a conditioner made for that material. Avoid products that give a high-gloss, slippery surface, so passengers won't feel like they're on a roller coaster. If you have leather upholstery, dress the surfaces with a leather conditioner. Never use a vinyl product on leather.

Worn or torn areas of vinyl can be repaired using kits made for this purpose that are available at auto supply stores. Repairs are made with a patch that lets you match the color and grain of your upholstery. Worn areas of leather can be touched up with dyes or a high-grade shoe polish. Just make sure you match the color as closely as possible.

The dash presents a special challenge, with buttons, crevices and bezels that you can't get to with a cleaning rag. You can blast dust and dirt from these areas by using small cans of compressed air made for cleaning camera and computer equipment. Cotton swabs also work well here. Pay attention to the cleaning products you use on your dash. If your dash has a flat finish, don't use a product on it that will leave you facing a shiny gloss.

Clean air vent grilles with cotton swabs and brighten them up by misting on some spray-on vinyl/rubber dressing or accent spray-just a touch. You can also use these products to cover up light scuff marks on wood trim. Spray the stuff on a soft towel and then apply it to the wood.

Clean glass or plastic gauge lenses with a glass or plastic cleaner, not wax. Pull off any removable knobs to clean the bezels underneath. Ever wonder where the haze on the inside of your windshield comes from since you don't smoke? It consists of plastisols given off as the plastics used in many new cars slowly cure. Not to worry-a good glass cleaner should remove it. If your windows are really cruddy, you may have to resort to stronger measures, such as scrubbing with 4-ought steel wool.

Good luck, i hope this will FixYa.

I have a 2010 Honda accord v6 leather beige interior. It gets dirty, so if I buy seat covers for my car, can I will feel my seat warmer through my seat covers?

you can fit covers BUT any dust that gets between the cloth and the leather will act like a scourer and take the shine/laquer off, making it even harder to clean in the future.use "simple"(unperfumed)soap to clean the leather, and wipe with a damp cloth after.

S500 Mercedes Leather Arm Rest Worn

You may try an upholstery shop, one that deals in auto restoration, convertible tops , etc. Auto parts stores are a good resource for info. Those guys behind the counter know a lot, and may be able to lead you in the right direction. You may be able to save a few hundred bucks, maybe more.

Buying 2001 RX300 65,000 miles extra clean

If you aren't mechanical, have someone who is check the car out. Specifically, the transmission fluid for color and smell (On toyota's they are to be changed every 30K miles, few drivers do this), and pull the spark plugs to see if they all appear relatively clean (a burnt looking plug indicates an engine problem). Ask to see the maintenance records. Oil should be changed every 3-4,000 miles if regular oil, 8-10,000 if synthetic.

The next BIG thing regarding maintenance is timing belt and water pump at 90,000 miles. Expect 500-700 for this, not at the lexus dealer. Probably double at the lexus dealer.

I would be interested under 12,000. Very interested under 10,000.

FYI, I'm driving a 95 ES300 with 170,000 miles and it runs like a top. These cars require very little in the way of repair if they are maintained. My goal is 300,000 just to see if it can be done. Unfortunately, I drive a total of 1,000 miles a month these days. So it will be a while. On the interior, you can have very nice new leather seats installed if the rest of the interior is in reasonable shape. Cost around $1,000 or a little less.

Good luck!!

Wearing of leather on top of driver door from resting arm.

well i hate to tell ya this, but regular wear and tear of your vehicle isn't ever covered, its known that if you rub on some thing enough it will wear out. leather seats will crack when cold, they don't tell you to not sit down if your seats are cold, they don't tell you not to stab your seat with a knife, but that will ruin it. i'm not trying to be a **** but it happens. you can try to clean it though with leather conditioners, and cleaners, and you can try to put some thing over it to keep this from getting worse, other than that all I can tell you is to try to keep your arm off of this panel.
