Vehicle has 125K miles. Leather interior still in good shape, BUT dirty dirty. How do I cheaply clean/restore the leather. I've heard about products from the auto parts store(e.g. Meguiar's G7214 Gold Class Leather Cleaner and Conditioner), BUT I'm not sure. I've heard about using leather shoe cleaner. Not sure....BUT I don't won't to mess anything up. Next question, How do you repair leather? I have small hole on the rear side in the driver seat. The leather is the only thing that is ripped. Vehicle runs great! Exterior body is almost flawless. Any help is greatly appreciated.
I use Griot's Garage leather care products and have been very pleased with the results. Thy have a leather care spray that will clean light dirt, but very dirty leather may require an interior cleaner that is PH blanced so it does not dry the leather out. Then after the leather is clean, allow it to warm in the sun and apply leather care, leather 3 in 1 or leather rejuvenator, all excellent products, that will sink into the leather and keep it supple and prevent cracking. I would not use shoe cleaner as that leather is dyed differently and may be too harsh for fine leather as is used on vehicle seats. Also keep in mind that in most vehicles, only the leather "seating surfaces" are actually leather, the rest is matching vinyl so be sure to test anything you use on a non-visible spot first.
As for repairs, there are kits available to repair holes and rips. Many are simple and require a small patch behind the leather and the placing of a color matched "goo" on top of the patch and pressing of a grained paper over the goo to resemble the leather graining, so it looks similar when dried.
Best of luck.
