If you want it to start with a start motor, driven from a battery, my guess is the battery is in bad condition. Normally a battery will perform less when temperature is going down, but an old or worn out battery can't perform at all when it is cold. I would check that first. Just take a good battery to start one of them and see what happens. Then see if you want to replace them.

SOURCE: Champion 3500 watt generator shuts down after 1 min. Not low on oil!

You have a carburetor problem. Stuck float or clogged filter. Gas cannot get into the carb as fast as it is used. Letting it sit for a few minutes will allow the bowl to fill.

I am looking for an owners manual for a Coleman Powermate generator model PMO645250

Powermate doesn't have an owners manual listed for the PM0645250 on their website.

Since wintertime is a good candidate for power failures I would recommend using a good synthetic 5w-30 oil as it is a good year around oil. This would make starting much easier during the cold weather

Rv onan rv runs but now makes a rackett when running was real quiet

Contact www.advanced-power-technologies (Cummins Dealer) with exact model and spec number. Also there are cold weather options, and cold weather models. Many people buy the RS units of the net, only to find they have been stuck with warm weather models, and they don't start. Does it show a code, or a code 45.

Guardian propane generator hard starting. At 20 F backfires and won`t start. Goes to overcrank.

It needs a cold weather option, one that heats the oil and also the carb so the LP gas does not freeze the carb. A common problem

I am not sure where you live, the problem is a common problem. Most generator manufacturers now offer a cold start or cold weather option, this is an oil warmer, but more importantly a carb heater. I would contact a Briggs CERTIFIED generator dealer and ask them if there is that option available

Generac Guardian 12 KW Model 04456-2 shuts down on overspeed in cold weather

See my 5/22/12 comments on my "overspeed fault" problem resolution [Generac 43903 standby Generator overspeed indicator on starting] . If it only runs for a few seconds and then quits, you may have a similar condition to the one my unit had. A good technician should be able to diagnose the problem and determine if you have a similar failure to the one I had, or one of the other causes suggested by RSG000.

Cold weather generator running

I don't believe you have a problem with running your unit out in cold weather, it just does't make any since. There have to be a problem with the engine. If your unit is new or has been used very little, it is not broke in and has a to much blow-by. If this is the case you will find oil in your air clean and/or muffler. To fix it problem you need to change your oil and replace it with a organic oil which means not synthetic. Run your unit under 1/4 load for 15 minutes in your case about 15 amp at 120vac. This step it up to 30 amps at 120vac of 15 minutes then 45 amps for 15 min. Then about 60 amps for a good hour. After that step the unit back down to 45,30,and 15amps to allow the engine to cool-down properly. If you load your unit with 240vac instead of 120vac just divide the amps by two giving you 7.5, 15, 22.5, and 30amps. This should break your engine in. If you are still leaking/pushing out oil you more than likely have a bad seal, gasket, or something broken in you engine internally.
