Philips 17pf9936 power problems

Are you saying the tv does not come on when you press the power button as it should? If that is the case - the philips tvs have a known issue with power supplies and if you have experience with electronics I'd say open it up and check the power supply for bad capacitors (bulged/leaking or busted caps) if you have component level experience replace them then try your tv again - ive fixed many philips tvs with this problem.

I had a similar problem with my 42 in Philips LCD HDTV.

Here was the problem. My Power Supply Board had several bad capacitors. I opened my TV (warranty was expired of course) and found four bulged capacitors on the PSB. Many major electronics companies Philips/Magnavox, Sony, Panasonic, and others were sold capacitors that failed in 2-5 years instead of 10-20. The capacitors fail prematurely due to a lack of preservatives. Unfortunately, they were installed in all sorts of devices and cause a wide range of failure problems.

Here are some options for you.

1. Have it fixed by a professional $$$$$$$??????? (Is it under warranty?)

2. Open your TV and find PSB. (The board that the power cord plugs into) Check for faulty caps. If you find some (bulged or leaking) bad caps replace the entire board. The entire board costs around $250 right now because they are in high demand right now. They can be found at tv-part.com but supplies are limited. I would definitely shop around though.

3. Remove and then replace individual faulty caps. This takes some soldering skill.

Caps are inexpensive and if you can take care of it yourself it will save you hundreds.

This may be your problem. If you determine that it might be.

Look for bad or bulged capacitors in the power supply PCB. The value of the caps will be on the side of the cap. Also look at all the fuses an the power supply and x and y drive boards. Thanks for using fixya. Take a moment to rate this responce.

I don't know what the shop did or didn't do but I know that these sets are bad about bad capacitors on the power supply PCB. They are usually easy to see because the top of the caps will be bulged out. Call philips and see what they say. It never hurts to try. Thanks

GP151001, Typically these cable/wire connectors fall into a catagory called HIGH DENSITY INTERCONNECT connectors or similar type. I should think that the whole assembly should be available somewhere ****!!! It's just this kind of thing that really gets me P.O.ed louie12fix

mi tv turns on but only in color blue,next tv turn off red light apear one time and second time flash twice,whit mi remote control power on tv turs on ,then whit mi remote control send change chanes or any other funcion the tv turns off,letme now if you solve yor problem ,and i apreciate if you have some tips for me,thank.

The part that went out on mine was a wire harness. And fixed it and now it works.
